It is only the Citizen Kane of comic books. No big deal.

But the Watchmen sucked though. I mean seriously, it doesn't go anywhere for like 6 chapters and it's fucking retarded anyway.

Not with all the bullshit sci fi themes it isn't. If it was just about masked vigilantes and their personal struggles it would've been cool but with the existence of Dr Manhattan and that Adrian fellow anything interesting was ruined.

Yeah, science FICTION doesn't belong in movies or graphic novels. Personal struggles of masked vigilantes that are HUMAN. If you wanted a traditional super hero story, Watchmen ain't it. I can't give any creditability to your arguement if you haven't read the book.

Then why did they bother taking so much from them in the first place? Blue men with special powers and a mad scientist trying to bend the world to his wishes? That's just plain stupid if you want to be taken seriously.

So giant blue men and mad "scientist" automatically qualify as super hero plot points? It is still a comic book movie, just not the one that you like. There is a little something called GASP complexity. I know, it is a scary thought right? Thinking at the cinema? I'd sooner give women the vote!

It is still a comic book (doesn't have to be realistic or serious) movie (also doesn't have to be taken serious) so it can have over the top characters and stories. Which comic book movie doesn't? Don't bother answering that question, because they all do.

Also he wasn't really a mad scientist, just a gennius who DID save the world, and isn't that what heroes are supposed to do?

what? FICTIONAL ELEMENTS IN A FICTIONAL STORY? MOST NERVE RACKING!

if Watchmen were 100% realistic you know what'd it be? someone going out, buying Groceries, going home, watching TV.

REALITY SUCKS ASS. THAT WHY WE HAVE MOVIES AND COMICS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

it doesn't matter how many crazy things a movie/comic/game uses. as long as the story it tells is interesting, i see no issue.

a story can have as many Sci-Fi themes as it pleases and still be a good representation of reality and personal struggles.

What complexity? If anything it gave the illusion of such.

Okay now we're entering entering a discussion that would fit better in the politics forum.

Rorschach's journal, October 16, 1985:

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain.
Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up."
Man bursts into tears.
Says, "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

Good joke.
Everybody laugh.
Roll on snare drum.
Curtains.

The recuring image of lovers embracing. Every clock in the movie is always close to midnight. The blood stain on the Comedian's badge. If you think of the badge as a clock, the blood splatters across where fifty five would be. Five minutes to midnight. Yellow and black on the Comedian's badge and his daughter's outfit.

They were only to get a small amount in the movie. Saying that Watchmen is absent of symbolism is like saying two plus two doesn't equal four. I can open to any page and probably find something interesting.

Really? A damned wiki? Mind breaking down the specific things that make it so special to YOU. And please be as detailed as possible because from the looks of it your just over complicating the relatively simple and taking this comic for more than it really it.

Sounds like you're underestimating it. For crap's sake it's been on the New York Times Top 100 Novels of All Time for how many years now? And it's the only graphic novel to ever do that. Of course it's unique and special if it can do that. Not to mention that Rorschach is so awesome.

But why damn it why! I don't understand the fandom! Though the ending I think would make a wonderful politics forum discussion over whether or not that whole thing is terrorism or not.

No we aren't. The creators didn't draw and write everything to come together on accident. The knew exactly what they were doing.
