Everyone seems to hate it when some Hollywood director decides to make a film adaptation of a video game. They always seem to come out wrong, and even if they were half decent, they would fail at the box office anyway because only optimistic fans of the original video games would actually watch them. However, it also goes the other way around. Every time a movie is released, a video game adaptation is bound to be released along with it, and with very few exceptions, these cheap games are atrocious.

So what's actually worse? Movies based on video games? Or video games based on movies?

its easy both ways.
the game designers just add in interactivity with the movie and thats ur game.
take the game and turn it into a movie.

its not that hard.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Of course they're easy to make. That's why most of them are so shitty.

very true

also the silent hill movie kicked ass, the rest not so much

Think about this; think about how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.

Comparing the qualities of a videogame and a movie doesn't work so well. They are two different mediums with different standards. On the other end of the spectrum, if I had to choose between liking MGS or LoTR (the movies) more, I wouldn't be able to do that either. In this instance, where quality is assumed to be low in both cases, I would rather watch the movie simply because of time. The movie takes an hour or two to watch. The game probably takes 5-10 hours to play. That doesn't necessarily mean that the movie is 'better' than the game because games are expected to be that long; it's one of the different standards I mentioned earlier. All it means is that I really don't want to waste much time on a bad product.

I saw the film adaptation of Silent Hill. It wasn't bad. I also enjoyed the first Resident Evil movie as much as any other zombie flick, but that really isn't saying much. Alone in the Dark, on the other hand, was pretty bad. I'm not even sure if I finished watching it.

i was just about to get to that.
let movies be movies.
let games be games.
lets leave it at that.

Movies based on games are usually filled with bad acting, bad dialogue, bad action scenes, and barely having ANYTHING to do with the game, just having the name slapped on for marketing. They can be entertaining though.

Games based on movies are obviously more faithful to the movie, but filled with glitches and shitty gameplay just for the purpose of profit off the movie. Not entertaining and a complete waste of money.

I MUST inform you guys that MOST OF THE MOVIES based on video games are realised and produced by Uwe Boll.. Now if you know Uwe Boll you know that he's the most pathetic movie producer that have ever existed on our poor planet. The day somebody like Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg will make a movie based on a video game I can assure you all that it will be something COMPLETELY different from what you have seen so far...

Uwe Boll movies ---> Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne, Dungeon Siege, Postal, Far Cry and many more...

He even wanted to make a movie based on Metal Gear Solid and the game Creator Hideo Kojima answered "NO FUCKING WAY"... that's how bad he is
