Software synthesiser? 2009-07-31 22:55:09 Reply

Hey does anyone know of any software that acts like a synthesiser for audio input. I mean I know in alot of programs you can plug in a midi instrument and use VST's but I don't have a midi instrument. So does anyone know of such software?

Definitely NOT called a Synthesiser.
That would be an effect.
There are many, quite very good ones out there. Check the
Best Free Vst Effects thread. To run those effects you'll need a VST host program.
What you try to do ? plug a guitar into your computer and play or something else ?
Depending of what you want to do I can help you with some advices.

I know about VST but I only know how to use them in cubase using midi tracks. Now I have seen some software that can put distortion, reverb ect on a track but how do I put it to VST's?
(sorry if I'm not being very clear)

I've seen a friend plug in a keyboard and use Reason to modify the sounds it makes, is this what you're looking for?

no hes wanting something like an effects pedal, he wants something that will "re-synthesize" his guitar, like a vocoder, where his guitar is the modulator, basically he is saying something like run his guitar through ableton and through an effect and then back out his speakers, but i guess hes wanting something that will make his guitar sound defferent?

What you're looking for it's a VST effect.
What you were using in Cubase on MIDI tracks was probably a VST synthesizer, a sound generator.
What you need s a VST that can apply an effect on audio tracks, a effect that can be run also in real time (like you plug your guitar in your computer and play through the effect).

Make a list of what you use and what you want, like this:
Gear
- Audigy soundcard (2x line in, 1 MIDI in, 1 MIDI out)...
- Cubase 2 or Cubase 4 or whatever software you're using.
I want
- to put my guitar in my computer and play like on a guitar processor
- to put my voice through some effects to sound like a zombie...
etc

Also it's spelled etc not ect.
Etc comes from the Latin "et caetera" (reads like et cetera) that means "and so on" or "and the rest (of such things)".
Et means "and", cetera (plural of caeterum) means "the rest".

Careful giving out grammar lessons soro. Your spelling may be perfect but lets just say that your posts always have cute little syntax errors in them that make them special and unique :3

I was wondering what your primary language was but I wasn't sure if it was kosher to ask :)
