On my way back home from downtown Knoxville, I was pulled over by a state sheriff. I figure he might have gotten me for not using my turn signal, since I didn't use it before turning onto I-40.
So I pull off to the right and turn on my hazard light and the police officer gets out of his car and walks to my window. He asks for my license and registration and tells me to turn off the car and get out. I walk to the back of my car with the officer and he handcuffs me. Surprised by what's going on (I didn't even know for sure why I was pulled over in the first place) I ask him what did I do for getting pulled over?
He doesn't answer my question and instead starts searching through my car while I stand there handcuffed. About 15 minutes later he asks what was I doing in this part of town, and I told him I was on my way home.
He then makes me sit in the back seat of his squad car still in handcuffs and another sheriff pulls up to the scene. The two officers were talking to each other for what seemed like a hour before finally getting back to me.
The first officer then looks like you're not the person we're looking for. He told me that I fit the description and also drive a vehicle that they were looking for. They finally uncuff me and tell me to go to my home.
The sherrif had the nerve to follow me for another 5 miles until I pull up to my building before he drives off. No apology or anything. I didn't get any citation for the no turn signal, but I was truly embarrassed for an hour and I felt like I was being profiled.
