We have a small summer home in Crisfeild Maryland and one of our elderly neighbors had a pretty bitchin' car that he gladly sold to me, After he recently had a heart attack. He is scared shitless of dieing, so he was happy to pass it on to someone to restore it, He's a really nice guy, I hope he does not die.

So here it is a 1974 FJ40 Landcrusier. Purchased for the bargain price of 150$

Not in too bad of condition needs alot of sanding, paint, Welding, new seats, a new clutch, etc. Not horrible considering all the signals work and we started it yesterday, not bad for sitting for thirty odd years. Allot of little things need fixin' but nothing too serious.

It's got bucket seats, kickass 4 wheel drive and has a spot for a fucking winch, and I'm powder coating all the instruments so I'm pretty happy. Not to mention the top bolts off for the summer and I'm thinking of purchasing a soft top. Also thinking about getting Classic tags opposed to regular ones.

So What do you think NG? I want to stay time period with the colors so I need a good time period color, Any suggestions or ideas feel free.

I hate mud, lots of good info

All about Landcruisers

More pics later

I bought a classic car!

What a shitty eye-sore. But you're right. It'll need some reparing done. Just know that it's going to cost you quite a bit with the way that thing is in.

Keep updating this thread with pictures of your progress. I think it will be interesting to se how this project turns out.

Maybe when you go to repaint it, you could give it a Newgrounds style paint job.

Well, it's in need of a good deal of work, but considering that you only paid $150 for it, I guess you got a pretty good deal.

That is not a "Classic Car" that is a "Rusty Old Car"
It is not worth the effort to fix it, you got completely ripped off paying for it.
The old man should have paid for you to remove it.

I think if I ever heard anyone refer to a landcruiser as a classic car in person, at any age or state of disrepair I would punch them in the face.

Actually, he could probably get a decent amount of money for scrap if he wanted.

Also, if the engine is in good working order, then I'd say it might be worth fixing up. Half the reason a lot of people bother to fix up cars is the fun of actually fixing them up.

6 of my Honda's don't even run, but they all will be fixed up, so even if it doesn't work, for me they will be fixed.

Just work on the inside, clean up a little the outside. You should take that off-roading. That's pretty damn old though, that thing still run without turning into dust?

So a 74' Corvette is a classic car but not a 74' 4WD Landcrusier? Sorry to say it, it's old, there aren't alot left from the 60's and 70's and it's much older than needed to classify for classic tags.

So yeah it's a classic, I hope you and your prius die in a fire.

That fact that you compared a '74 corvette to your shitty purchase shows how mentally retarded you really are.

People go batshit crazy over these cars. Cool cruisers has entire archives about people pouring work into these cars making them worth 15 thousand to over fifty thousand plus dollars. The fact is the car is a "Classic" due to the fact that it is a older car and has alot of features only available in the late sixties and seventies making it a highly desirable fucking automobile.

All of it is opinion, and most Newgrounders don't want to put any work into such a old classic car, This car is built for handling and kicking every other cars ass, while a Corvette is built for speed or a Rolls Royce is built for looks. IT'S ALL FUCKING OPINION

By the way I own a 74' Corvette, it's right next to the 67' Camaro and behind the 66' Mustang

I bought a classic car!

I love restoring classic cars, right now I have a Mini in the shop, don't know what it is at the moment, haven't done anything to it because we have been working on getting the Studebaker cleared out so we could sell it but I will find out, and maybe even make a thread like this when we do restore it.

UPDATE

The FJ40 has been home for a few weeks now, the pictures I previously took were from the Old mans home in Maryland. The FJ Starts, runs and shifts gears beautifully, not bad for sitting for thirty odd years. As for some of the things I worked on, here is a list

1.Took out the old clutch, and replaced the master clutch cylinder. (Shifts like a dream) 100$

2.Changed the water pump, no more antifreeze or water leaking 25$

3.Removed the front bib and bought another 74' FJ bib off Craigslist 50$

4.Ordered new bottom panels, saving me a lot of time 150$

5.Bought new rims and off-road sidewinder tires. 350$

6.Bought new Gas lines, yet to be put on 30$

7.Engine Enamel spray paint (For later) 15$

8.Wire brushed the air cleaner and outside of engine. Free

9.New back window (for later) 25$

10.Weather striping (also for later) 20$

11.Bought large piece of sheet metal to weld into new floor 80$

12.Misc metal to weld 40$

13.Bondo body filler (Later) 20$

14.Front axle off a 79' FJ 100$

Grand total for right now 1005$ plus my initial 150$ investment comes to 1155$

And a bunch of other little stuff I worked on, the car is moving and running good so after all the engine work is done, another month or so, I can re-wire the electronics and such, then I can weld in the new floor work on the body and head to a Junkyard for new bucket seats and front seats. Cosmetic work is going to be coming in another two months give or take.

There were a lot of neat things that the car still has, I have the original Mat and the original cigarette lighter along with the locking gas tank. I'm planning on powdercoating the instruments once the interior is finished, The back floor where the bucket seats are, is also going to be covered with carpet or whatever I decide on

More updates with engine work coming soon. Here are some pics to tide you all over.

I bought a classic car!

Front interior, and yes the gas tank runs UNDER the passenger seat.

Nevermind the other cars, or parts in the pictures, most of it is there due to other cars we are restoring.
