Welcome to the Windows 7 Crew. Join other NG'ers using Windows 7 or fans of the operating system.
If you haven't heard of Windows 7, this should help clear some things up....
"Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) is an upcoming version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs." More here.

Feel free to post for help using, or anything else(news, tips & tricks, resources, etc) related to Windows 7. I'm sure I can, and other users can help you.

Right now im dual booting windows 7 RTM and Ubuntu 9.04
I use ubuntu for most of the online stuff, but windows 7 for all the games and programs that wont run on linux. Windows 7 is a hell of a lot better then vista, even at this point in development. Im not going to bother going back to vista, because this thing is just as, if not more stable then vista.

although you cant pull me away from the taskbar setup I have used since windows 95 >:(

Gotta love Windows 7. Even as a beta, it works flawlessly with any hardware and software, and any minor problems were an easy fix. I'm running the RC on my secondary computer as a free OS. Would there be any big benefits to reformatting to the RTM build?

I dual boot Windows 7 and Vista. The taskbar is exceptional and I love being able to add multiple folders into one library. It's a huge improvement on Vista and XP. I can't wait untill people start releasing Visual styles and other things for it.

See here for a simple taskbar customization tutorial by yours truly!

I haven't tried Windows 7 yet, but one thing's for sure.

It looks like shit. It's even worse than Vista. Why can't people just make something that looks neat and simple such as the Windows XP look? I don't want huge disgusting icons on my desktop and a lame ass start bar. I bet the UI is just as terrible. I know I can probably find some skins but ugh.

Unfortunately I'm gonna need to upgrade to Windows 7 for DX11. Sigh...

You haven't tried it, like you said. So you don't know the (customizing) options. It's hard to make a design that everyone will like too, and you might like it once you actually test it out. You can change the size of the icons. You can also make the taskbar/startbar like XP/Vista. Easily too.
And might I add, you sound very biased about Windows 7.

you cant say its shit if you didnt even try it, and besides the taskbar has the options to look and feel like vista, xp, or 95/98. you can do that on vista even. just go into preferences. if thats your only complaint about it, you have been missing out.

I set my taskbar to have smaller icons. It's what I'm used to and it gives me more room space.

Nice taskbar! :D
Mine is set up on the left. Since my laptop has a fairly widescreen, I figure it's best going vertically. With large icons too, I tend to switch the sizes after every week or so though. I'll get a screenshot of it when I'm not so tired.

I've been using Win7 since the beta was released. I dual booted 7 and Vista on my laptop, but when the RC was released I went full 7 on my desktop. I can not see myself ever going back to XP (I never had Vista as a primary OS, my laptop was not used that much).

I was so risky, I just used Windows 7 pre-beta (build 6801) as my only OS on my laptop.
Worked out great. :D

6 months already? Damn, where as the time gone? :p

Anyone try Internet TV on Media Center yet? It's pretty neat, but lacks content I'm interested. Can't wait to see it develop more. :)

I've been using Windows 7 since RC, and I'm loving it. It's excellent, although I'm not a fan of the compressed start bar so I have it to a more traditional style.

The new start bar is one of my favorite things about Win7.

I also like how I can tell when I'm going to crash because my cursor changes to a dotted line. I need to replace one of my hard drives...

Same! Using the taskbar has never been more enjoyable. Right-clicking cuts out more point-and-click. Pinning folders, and other programs is really handy too. I got rid of my start button. Since I needed more space. But ya, if I need to just go to a folder, I just open up windows explorer via taskbar, or right click on it, since I have it pinned.

I think Windows 7 is finally shaping out to be what Windows Vista should have been. Fast, reliable, easy to use, and not complete crap.

The 6th version of certain stuff is never really good. "24" season 6 and Windows Vista was such an example xD

There most certainly is. I recommend 64-bit if you want to get the most out of your machine. It has been working flawlessly for me.

I've only really been a fan of Windows ME, Windows XP Service pack 2 32-bit & Windows Vista 32-bit.

Windows 7 = awesome!

It's so much lighter than Vista. My laptop was slow as hell with Vista, but windows 7 runs just like XP. Charming operating system!

I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 beta this March, and was pleased with it. I like the U.I. and the "increased productivity" it provides, but mainly its "dock" buttons on the toolbar. I felt at home because it had many similarities with Vista, though I didn't see a huge performance improvement.

However many of my games, especially the Project Reality mod didn't work on Windows 7, so I reinstalled Windows Vista again, happily enjoying my war sims.

Maybe I'll get it, but I don't see any killer features or improvements that would make me want to spend a lot of money to upgrade to an OS that isn't hugely improved.

alright, but is it going to affect my old Games/Applications? because i have games like Fallout 1 and 2 and really like playing them.

I just reformatted my laptop yesterday, switching from Vista Ultimate to W7 RTM (I think it's RTM, at least).

I love it so much more than Vista. It doesn't take 10 minutes to restart, it's more RAM efficient, it's more streamlined, it's simply much more awesome. I'm thinking Microsoft finally found an OS that can replace XP.

I'm leaving everything default for a few weeks before I start customizing it. You know, just until the new OS smell wears off.
