It's not that hard really. A kid in Boston (I think) a few years ago got into a telephone company's computer system. He restarted the system and all phones went down for about 3 weeks.

We must protect the internet at all costs, if freedom of speech in the internet goes then all is lost. Even if it was the jonas brother's fanclub website instead of 4chan then I would still be in as much rage as right now. It is a violation of our human rights to restrict access on the internet.

Just to let you guys know, AT&T was the first to flinch in the staring contest. They backed down and enabled access to 4chan's /b/ and /r9k/ boards all across the country about 20 minutes ago. Their purported reason for blocking it in the first place was not 4chan's questionable content, but apparently the massive amounts of DDoS attacks being launched on 4chan nearly all hours of every day from various sites across the internet, which were reportedly eating up AT&T's precious bandwidth and slowing down their servers.

this leads me to believe that that they were lying when said it was blocked because of all the DDoS attacks. If this were the true reason, why would they suddenly enable access to everyone?
