You have to look beyond what's been advertised at the multiplexes. There are great films from all over the world being released regularly, and some 'lost' classics being unearthed and released to worldwide acclaim, like the epic revolutionary film "I Am Cuba" for example.

Movies have been slowly declining for a while. Now, instead of original movies like Animal House, we get "College" and instead of a sci fi comedy like "Back to the Future" we get "Aliens in the Attic." Just hunt for the good ones.

There are loads of great movies being made, but as with any medium, they don't hop up and ring your doorbell. You have to seek them. What's popular usually won't contain the best.

Books, music, visual arts, etc., it applies the same way.

Yeah, the only good movies I've seen all year was 'The Wrestler' and 'Gran Torino'. Movies used to be an Art Form, not a Cash Cow... Or maybe it was but atleast they still made them good back in the day.

How would you know? It's only a trailer.

I've already seen a few amazing movies this year: Coraline, Inglourious Basterds, Polytechnique, Sin Nombre... You just have to be a cautious moviegoer. I do that by listening to the critics, finding out about overlooked movies, (like the last two) and not seeing a random mainstream movie that comes out on Friday. To be honest, out of the dozens of movies I've seen from this year, only one I thought was downright mediocre, and that was Duplicity. (I mainly didn't like its incredibly confusing story.)

I watched Doubt the other day and it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Less than a year old I believe. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep were simply stunning. I love the fact it was adapted from a play, and the playwright directed the film.

Dangerous Basterds was a good refreshment as well.

Of course it's going to suck.
It's made by the guys that made Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

*sigh,* i mean seriously, "aliens in the attic?" wow thats an original idea..... >:[

Why are you bitching about a kids' movie?
Are you going to watch it?
Are you even in the target audience?

i wonder when they will start making good movies again, that movie "9" looks good but they made it overdramatic with the heavy metal guitars and stuff, also its made by tim burton so im not watching it, that guys creepy....

TIM BURTON DID NOT MAKE "9" IT'S DIRECTED BY SHANE ACKER, AND IS BASED ON A SHORT FILM HE DID IN 2005.
TIM BURTON DOES NOT MAKE EVERYTHING HIS NAME'S ATTACHED TO.
Christ, you fucking kids think he makes EVERYTHING.

Also, it's a trailer.
You're letting your viewing choices be dictated by trailers?
Trailers always lie.

I agree that most movies today are absolute crap. Like Aliens in the Attic and that stupid movie with some rock made by the spy kids director...

I also get pissed when I see some movie with a crap storyline that people only watch because it has some hot guy like zac efron in it.

But there have been some other movies released in the past decade that are really good.. They're just rare and there's only like 1-3 every few years.

Dark Knight
Watchmen
Cloverfield
King Kong

And the best ones ever made in this decade imo are The Matrix and Lord of the Rings trilogies. They're probably also the only trilogies released in this decade as well lol.

We need more movies like those.

Wait... someone called Watchmen a film for children just because it was based on a comic? Have you seen Watchmen? Not even close to a children's film. There are adult comics too.

NOSTALGIA FILTER!

All movies in all decades had moments of failure in it. You know? You just gotta know what your looking for and everything will be alright. So please this Nostalgia tentedness isn't going to help. Your childhood doesn't mean shit if all you did was watch tv/play video games and got beaten for doing bad (or had shit taken away from you).

most movies have potential to be good, but it's usualy the fault of the makers because they want it to make it pg-13 and shit like that so little kids can go see water down movies.Look at the dark night it was rated R and was good made like a billion internationally.....so yeah.

You have to realize that after awhile, it seems like everything has already either been made or re-made. Movie studios end up going for anything sometimes to not go bankrupt and to just put something out.

I mean, look at "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", it's a movie based on a childrens book and yet it has nothing to do with the book period.

I mean, there also making "Where the Wild Things Are" into a movie.

NO. OUT, NOW. That film may of been a passable experience (except for the spams that were the unwatchable outdoor scenes and the warp speed story line) but it was not a Trek movie. Damn you mainstream retards, DAMN YOU!!!!!!

I have to say, here's how I feel abou the movies that I've seen that've come out this year theactrically:

Terrific:
Coraline
Inglourious Basterds
District 9

The first two both recieved rewatches, and I bought the Coraline DVD. Will probably end up picking up IB too. As for District 9, I'm unsure of that because of how much of a down note it ended on, though it was still a shining light in a dim world.

Really good:
Up

Really cute and fun, if not absolutly depressing in the first five minutes. This eagerly recieved a rewatch with my mother, who wanted to see it pretty badly. Still, as great as it was, it wasn't quite as good as Ratatouille in my opinion, which also happens to be my favorite animated film(Coraline in 2nd).

Good:
The Hangover

I decided to check this out after hearing such great reviews, and wasn't dissapointed. It was a fun, raunchy comedy with a unique cast. That being said, it felt like there was some sort of energy missing from the film, which made me feel a bit empty at parts.

Bruno

Suprisngly entertaining, if not a little uninspired and forgettable. It's also hurt by an absolutly painful first 10 minutes.

Decent:
Ige Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

First one was amazing, second was a quite good, and the third was just slightly above average, kind of like Shrek.

Monsters vs. Aliens

Given my love of B-movies, one would think that I would've loved alot more than I did. Unfortunatly, many of the jokes were quite juvinille and uninspired, though there were some good lines, and BOB was an enjoyable piece of work. I ended up rewatching this, but only because I saw it in 2D the first time(invited by a friend), and everyone was saying, "AW DUDE, IF YOU DON'T SEE IT IN 3D IT'S LIKE YOU'RE NOT SEEING IT AT ALL!" So I felt like I needed to see it in this "amazing 3D". While the 3D was admittedly breath taking, it didn't really add anything to the film, just made it different.

Mediocre:
Knowing

The world blows up and I walk out thinking, "Meh." That ain't right.

Poor:
Transformers 2

People who hate this movie generally criticize the lack of story, the one-dimensional characters, the stereotypical/racist ebonic-speaking transformers, the poor acting, or the one-dimensional characters. None of that really bothered me. What my biggest complaint about this movie is is the camerawork. THE CAMERA DOESN'T STOP FUCKING MOVING. It's like Michael Bay took just under the lethal dose of cocaine, downed it with some vials of ecstasy-laced speed, and then started jerking off while filming. It was really disorienting, and made me motion sick.

Awful:
Push

They clearly didn't spend much time writing that movie, so I'm not going to spend much time writing this.

My first flash-please leave reviews!
Please read and respond to my news posts, thanks.

I didn't watch Transformers, or Transformers 2, and everybody thought I was being stupid. No, I just don't like Michael Bay's movies.

As for 2012, I really think the whole world ending in 2012 thing is bullshit. If you took the time to actually figure out what the Mayan calendar says, it clearly states that 2012 WILL NOT BE THE END OF THE WORLD.

Mayan calender says need new calender, pretty much, but any excuse for an Independence Day/The Day After Tomorrow/Godzilla type movie and we'll get it.

Wait a minute... It's the same Director/Producer! For all of those and 2012!

As for Comic Book = KIDZ Movie... Watchmen grossed me out in places, I'm 18, The Crow is a Comic Book Movie, as is Spawn and Judge Dredd (which sucks balls as a movie). V for Vendetta, Persepolis, Sin City... All comic books - none for kids. Arguement broken - favouring people without a stereotype that comics are for kids.

Bloody Spiderman 604 (last week's issue) had implied rape from the Chameleon disguised as Peter Parker.

This is a Prime piece of real estate below.

You have a point, however, there are great movies these days and some average ones and some sucky ones, but not all of them suck
