What's the best DC or Marvel? 2009-07-25 10:57:25 Reply

In general I would have to say I prefer Marvel for the host of characters they have created. So many good names? Any suggestions?

I vote DC, just because they have rights to the Captain Marvel character.

Marvel, they have Spiderman, Iron Man and the X-men. DC have Superman who is massively overpowered, Batman is pretty cool and the rest of theirs aren't too interesting.

DC is better in the fact it has the Vertigo imprint which has some awesome series like Preacher on it. But if we're jsut tlaking mainstream DC versus Main stream Marvel then Marvel is probably better.

They just have more believable charachters and seem to be happier with delving into issues and controversy that DC just stays well clear of.

Marvel. They have "real" characters, and a majority of their video games don't suck.

We need one of these topics every ten days, it was literally the second topic down not including this one of course. Why do NGers hate the search bar?

Discussion: Marvel, better and more realistic (well as realistic as super heroes are going to get) stories, fantastic franchises, and legendary characters. I find it easier to empathize with teenagers who are dueling with both their own personal issues and the controversy and hate surrounding being a mutant than an alien whose home planet exploded.

Thanks for the criticisms, first time attempting a post. Really gives me a confidence boost when someone feels like ripping me apart on my first try, thanks.

The ironic thing about the link is the topic is totally unrelated and I jumped the gun, for the record I have been owned by mathmos182 and most roam the earth for the rest of eternity as his bitch.

Feel better?

Shall I take that as sarcasm or sincerity? I get the impression the former is meant.

It was my attempt of being sincere and probably the nicest I'll ever be on these forums, take it or leave it.

Ok Chief, I'll take it. Thank you for the sincerity, it's appreciated. I will try not to drag up old topics in future, I submitted THEN read the forum rules.

Anyways, what did people think of Marvel attempts to make a Hulk Movie? A lot of people have said they hated the first one, which ironically I found to be in a more similiar feel to the comic then the Ed Norton reboot. Any opinions?

Both of them where steaming piles of shit, the second film shouldn't have attempted to been a sequel of the first and it was incredibly brief as well as predictable. Tim Roth and Edward Norton where the only ones who looked like they where trying to act.

I can't criticize the first one enough and I hardly remember the last time I saw it, however I do remember it being slightly more dramatic and much better than the second. At least there was some plot to it, the visual directing was just shitty.

IMO, I would say someone like Eric Bana plays a better hulk because he has that broody, waiting to expolode personality. Ed Norton I think of and always will as kind of a geeky guy. I think it's always EPIC FAIL when they change cast between films, it takes away an air of continuity. Exceptions to that are the batman films.

Really? I don't see how Norton can be a geek, he's kinda sorta best known for his role as a Neo-Nazi murderer in American History X. Like I said I don't remember the first film that well, just the performance of the Hulk's father, the general, crappy dark shots, and comic strip visuals. But perhaps a geek works best. After all Bruce Banner is a scientist.

Exceptions to that are the batman films.

Slow done there, Maggie Gylenhall had no business in that film, her entire performance felt really out of place, and I'm actually (as cynical as this may sound) glad they killed her off. Also the series will just die if they replace Heath Ledger.

True he had that performance, great film if I may add, however I can remember a lot of other roles where he plays average joe bordering on the geek type. I mean I love Ed Norton but I think he plays that intellectual type, it comes to the surface in American History X when he becomes "cured" of his hatred. I can agree with you on the scientific traits of Banner being played well by Norton, you must have been reading my mind on that part. However, I do think that Banner always had/has that edge of snappy temper to his personality, played so so well by Eric Bana, I feel that Ed Norton's own personality was able to create that impression as convincingly.

Slow done there, Maggie Gylenhall had no business in that film, her entire performance felt really out of place, and I'm actually (as cynical as this may sound) glad they killed her off. Also the series will just die if they replace Heath Ledger.

Agreed, she had no place in that film, for the sake of the series. I also hope that Joker doesn't get recast, somehow I doubt they will try.

Oh Contrare the Dark Knight was the top grossing super hero movie of all time, you may have to wait half a decade between each DC film and there's usually no super villains (Superman Returns) but they're well worth the wait, at least plot wise.

I honestly can't say since I've never read a Hulk or Avengers comic in my life but the film I've most recently seen is the sequel and as I remember Eric Norton brought the character to life a bit better, perhaps as a result of his own personality as you said.

Yeah I heard the next two films (assuming Nolan returns) will focus on the Riddler (thank God no one is considering Jim Carey) and the Penguin. They should've kept Two Face alive for another film, I felt some what cheated with Eckhart's brilliant but short performance.

But I had heard that Eddie Murphy might be the riddler, is this true because if it is that sounds like such a terrible choice.

Lol, that sounds more like someone you would feature in a parody than an actual film. I doubt they could add him to the cast and keep the dramatic over tones, it's even ridiculous to entertain that thought.

If Eddie Murphy ever did star in a super hero film he'd have to be the jive-talking, rebellious, stereotypically black version of Robin similar to Chris Rock in the rush hour films.

I think Marvel is better because of the wide range of characters and they tend to delve into the personal lives of theirr characters more than DC.
