Alright so I'm one of the possible few on NG that is trying to make it somewhere with my music. To make it simple, I want to make it famous.
Anyways, I plan on making and distributing an album that has the music I made that is on NG. NG audio is free though, and I plan on making money off this CD. How would I go about selling this album, even though I'm still looking for input on my music?
The way I see it, NG is the best place to get input for your music.

Good luck with that.

Do you have a fanbase? Unless there's a large group of people that really enjoys your music, no one's going to buy your album whether the songs are on NG or not.

What the hell newgrounds are you on?

It's you're music, there is no legal reason why you can't host it for free on NG and then charge for a compliation elsewhere - you can release the same piece of music under multiple licenses.
That being said, it would be a bit silly to release a CD full of stuff that can be got for free legally.
Either make some more tracks and make them exclusive to your album (so in effect the user is paying for those tracks) or take some tracks off of NG - though since you have already distributed them, that might not be such a great idea as it will essentially make piracy of said tracks legal. It's a bit complicated like that.

Depends.
Honestly, I'd say the real money to be had in the music business is from merch at live shows. There's a reason a lot of artists have started giving away their music.

That's where advertising comes in, right? I've already started spreading my music across the internet to try and get a good enough fanbase for selling the CDs

Alright, I'll rephrase that: NG is one of the only places where you can get SOME input for your music. Some sites I've gone to (last.fm, revernation) Don't seem to have a review system and for ultimate-guitar, it seems almost impossible to get a single review. So yeah, NG is one of the only places to get any input at all.

Didn't know that, thanks for telling me.

That's a good point, but I believe I have a plan for that. The people that downloaded my songs off of here can have them. By the time the album's released, it will be mixed to give a better sound quality. That's what I was thinking anyways.

All I can say is good luck.
Honestly though I'm of the opinion your best bet is to get a band together and start playing local. If you can make enough waves you'll get noticed eventually. Seems like a better way to get people exposed to your music, if you're playing in clubs and bars.

My thoughts exactly, also to get the hype up, I'll put up posters and such around town.

first off, how are you going to go about selling it? are you trying to get a label? are you going to an independent CD making company and getting your music mass produced? or are you going to be mixing the CDs yourself and trying to sell it at shows?
if you are going to get a label, fantastic. that's where you'd most likely get most of your money. the problem with this is the complications- first off, GETTING signed is tough. second, your music doesn't exactly stay your music- meaning the whole "uploading it to the internet" part will create complications because they'd most likely want you to take it off. how are they going to make money for your music being on your newgrounds account for free? even if it is better quality?
the independent company, meh. you get someone to mass produce your album. i feel like it's a waste of money. sure, you have lots of CDs to sell but.. like someone else said before, unless you have a fanbase, no one will want to buy it.
i think the third is your best bet- going to local shows and stuff and selling your CDs independently. i actually have seen people do this and selling them for about $10. this way, you do what you want with your music and whatnot. the problem with this is you can't exactly mass produce it or become instantly famous with it. it seems like the route you are going for, though.
either way, i would definitely recommend making more songs. you think better quality is going to draw people to buying your music when you already have your music up here? sorry bud. quality alone isn't going to cut it. take the best music you have on here and put it into your album. then make some new songs, or remix your old ones.
i don't know how they did it, but my friend's band actually got a single onto itunes. i feel like that would help you out a lot too- having a single people can buy for not too much money.
anyway, i hope this helps!

You need a visit to www.slicethepie.com
56 reviews on one song in about 3 hours, and I'm a new out of the blue member.
And these are reviews that will expose any shortcomings in your songs, and will tell you what wouldn't work commercially, etc.
