Does christians think... 2009-07-21 02:22:04 Reply

I am curious on what christians think about their non-believing friends. I was talking to my cousin about an atheistic friend she has and she was saying that they are still friends even with his "beliefs". I get quite mad whenever she calls atheism that but seeing as a closet atheist myself, do christians believe that humanities point is to be a soul farm? I know (or atleast think) that souls don't exist, but I philosphise that they are calculating people of different faiths and seeing how many people can convert so they can go to heaven. It's like we are merely tickets so they can serve this bastard of a god and go up to heaven and laugh at all the non-believers.

Sincerly Masterzakk

What do you think about this, and if your a christian please tell me honestly what you think.

Some don't care.
Some would ideally like Atheists to be Christian instead but they understand freedom of religion and choice so they don't bother them.
Some preach door-to-door.
Some say that Atheists are going to burn forever for not believing in god.

The point is, that not all members of a single religion believe the same thing. You've got to remember that one of the ways that religion thrives is the fact that its teachings are written so vaguely that they can be interpreted in an infinite amount of ways, so there will always be Christians who think one thing and Christians who think the opposite, but they each consider themselves to be 'Christian'.

Also, it would've made more sense referring to non-Atheists as theists. There are a lot more religions than Christianity.

All people are different. Christians have all sorts of different and conflicting feelings twords atheists or whatever. Just respect other people and their beliefs and expect the same for yourself.

Y'know, I really don't give a fuck about your religion, And you shouldn't care about mine in my opinion. Was the universe made by one Super-Being, was it made by an explosion, or was it by Several Gods, one of them a poo-flinging monkey god? I really don't give a fuck! It's your life, live it your way.

As a Christian myself, I don't really care about whether my friends are atheist or agnostic or some other religion. I respect their freedom to believe what they want and I don't do anything about it. I just let them be who they choose to be whether I agree with it or not.

This website wouldn't provide an accurate sample of Christians worldwide. Most of the Christians on here are in their teenage years or early twenties. Across the globe there are Christians of all ages, all coming from different backgrounds and like most of the people in this thread have said, they all have different beliefs.

you interpret religion on such a superficial scale it's astounding

for the record hell isn't mentioned in the bible as much as brimstone preachers let on

http://ecclesia.org/truth/hell.html

to see just how protestants have 'modified' the book to suit their own ways

it's not even mentioned in most literal translations except as a metaphor to convey suffering of the mind

Everybody has a unique perception on the world, everybody has unique morals and social codes, etc. So, in theory, everybody has their own god. I mean sure they can try to label themselves with an umbrella term (christian, catholic, etc) but nobody really follows "god" the way it is written in scripture. Actually its impossible to do so because of so many contradictions.

Sounds like the devil's inside of you.

Nah I am just kidding. But seriously, I agree with what you say about how it's impossible to follow a religion as it's written. I don't think everyone has their own 'god', unless you would include the idea of a person's consciousness being their god, in which case you'd be right although then again it would depend on the individual's interpretation of what the word "god" meant.

There's no such thing as a "soul ticket" in the Christian faith. Maybe Catholics feel the need to convert everyone they know to their religion. I don't know for sure. All I know is that many of my friends are athiestic and some agnostic. And that I've been friends with them for many years, not thinking anything less or more of them. I've even had discussions (not arguments) over my faith and the faith(s) of others with them.

As a Roman Catholic, I can say that while I pray for the souls of atheists, I don't really give two shits as long as they don't fuck with me. You start bashing religion, I'm going to start flaming back, but if you keep it to yourself, hey, I had my religious experience, you didn't.

Not really. I myself am a Catholic; maybe not a devout Catholic, but I do understand the religion I was brought up with. Honestly, the way that things go at my church, we really just try to prepare ourselves for when people give us shit about most of the things that we do. Quite frankly I just can't stand the Protestants that follow the King James Bible to the letter and have some kind of weird hate for Catholics.

I'm not Protestant if that's what you're implying, it doesn't matter anyway. And I applaud all athiests and all thieists who put up with bullshit from the fanatics.

Oh no, I'm not implying that you're Protestant. I don't wish that on anyone. No offense to anyone who is Protestant, but after a few years of First Baptists telling me that any Catholic belief I have is wrong, it really just begins to dull my tolerance for most Protestants.

If he's really your friend, he won't care. None of what you shared in common would be changed by your revelation of atheism, unless your whole friendship was based on religion, and if he really liked you he wouldn't stop just because you didn't believe in something he believes in.
