That's all part of the problem. Newbies see a high post count and think they need one to become respected and end up continuing the chain of shitty posts. I would rather be respected by a small group of intelligent posters rather then a bunch of newbies. I only remember people if they say interesting things on a regular basis or are consistently funny.

It's good to be respected by newbies, but it's even better to be respected by the rest of the community.

I'll never understand why people think it's so cool to have 10,000+ posts. It's really not all that interesting if you don't have a good reputation to go with it. By that, I mean if you're a notorious spamwhore, then that's all your ten thousand posts are going to show: ten thousand posts of spam and shittiness.

Of course, maybe I'm not one to talk. I'd like to think that I have a good reputation to go with my 10k posts, but maybe i'm just a shitty poster. I don't know.

I do agree with you though. I don't care if you have 20,000, 40,000 or 1,000,000 posts. If 90% of them are shitty, useless one-liners, you're a shitty, useless BBS user as far as I'm concerned. What was the point of writing them at all? I'd rather have a few decent posts than a ton of stupidity to my name (well, internet name at least...).

A lot of users don't understand that post count doesn't necessarily make you a good poster, it's about the quality of the posts as well. There are a lot of posters that are respected because they have a high post count but a lot of it is flaming and spam. Few posters have around 3,000 to 7,000 but they actually put a lot of thought into what they're typing and they can write a couple of paragraphs and really discuss something.

Simple,

Every 500 posts increases your penis size by an inch. It's alllll scientific.

I don't know. I don't see the point in branding your post count like it's a badge to be respected. However I have a pretty high post count, maybe I'd feel different if I had a much lower one. I don't think I ever really cared though.. post quality is much more important than post count, and although my posts may not always be of the highest quality, if I don't have anything interesting to say then I don't post. I often write a post out and then decide not to post it.

^^ this exactly, and people would make those threads in order to boost both peoples post counts and the forum traffic, thus helping the ng user and ng in it self.

Well as I see it, having a high post counts gives you more recognition and or maybe some respect, it's not always good recognition, but people just want to get noticed. Now I seen a couple of people with 10k, but they are always short posts. The users with the less posts always seem to put effort on their posts.

I don't tend to find myself posting just for the sake of a plus one.

Respect comes to quality. Quality over quantity.

Ironically, I've just changed it out of randomly getting bored of said sig. I didn't see this post beforehand. It was intended to be more of a joke on the people who DO treat this place like a random sentence dump, not as a reflection of my own post habits.

More post = respect? I don't think so. All of the users that sign up think they need to make shitty + 1 spam threads and post just to get there post count up, so they think they can be respected. But when it comes down to it, if you post a lot people should know you.

And if you're known for a douche who says little 1 sentence responses to every thread in the BBS just to have high post count then you're losing the meaning of the whole point, not only that but you're spamming up the General Forums. All my advice is to newcomers who want to be "respected" by the community is to make good, thick, comment actually relevant and helpful to the users situation, rather than giving tasteless unfunny remarks.

That's how we'll respect you. If you have 8,000 shitty posts compared to 20 really helpful ones, you'd be more respected by the useful posts.

So, make your posts useful.

because the majority of newgrounds hangs on every word of someone with 8000 post but is quick to tell a person to fuck off who has only 80 posts. even if they made the same topic.

But sometimes posting really good is hard some questions can be answered in only two words believe it or not.

Not really. People who are not otherwise well-known names are judged by most almost entirely on post count and level.
