Boy, 6, Arrested for Kicking Pregnant Mom

A pregnant Florida woman decided to give her 6-year-old son a dose of tough love after the boy kicked her in the stomach during an argument: she called police and had him arrested.

A Florida boy was arrested for kicking his pregnant mother in the stomach.

The boy is 6.

"(I'm) hoping that this was a learning experience for him," said the mother, Mattie Ashley. "It tore my heart up, it really did, but I believe it was tough love, sometimes a parent has to do what a parent has to do to get the child to realize right from wrong."

Trying to Teach Him a Lesson

Ashley and her son were arguing Sunday night, and she tried to smack the child in the mouth, according to a police report. Then, she and her mother tried to hold the boy down on the couch when he kicked her stomach.

Hoping to teach the boy a lesson, she called police. She says she was hoping they would try to scare to boy into making him realize that it's not right to kick pregnant women.

After all, this is not the first time he's done it, she said. The boy, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and has been suspended twice from kindergarten — once for kicking a pregnant teacher in the stomach, Ashley said.

Cops: We're Not in the Child-Scaring Business

But police said they're not in the business of scaring children — and refused to let the boy go when Ashley decided to drop the charges.

"I explained to Mrs. Ashley that if she wanted a criminal investigation to take place that it would be followed through to the end, that we were not going to just scare the child with the presence of a deputy," Sheriff's Deputy Jennifer Jazdzyk wrote in an arrest report obtained by The Associated Press.

"Mrs. Ashley stated that he needed to learn right from wrong sometime in life and we might as well start now," she wrote.

However, the boy was released when State Department of Juvenile Justice officials, who were contacted after the boy's arrest, told deputies to release him, according to The Associated Press.

Well I agree that what he did was wrong but also what the mother did was wrong, She shouldn't have tried to slap him. I beleive in firm rules but no bodily harm.

I dunno. I think corporal punishment is very undervalued as a disciplinary tool. Nothing wrong with the odd smack I reckon - it hurts a bit, the kid sulks but stops misbehaving, a couple of minutes later its stopped hurting, the kids OK but has a good idea that if he takes the piss then he'll have to deal with the consequences.

Bruises etc. are that step too far tho'. There is a line that has to be drawn.

I agree, Kids these days have no control, I see kids who are such brats I begin to think they need a kick in the teeth to sort them out for lack of a simple smack here & there earlier in life, Smacking is acceptable to keep a child in line, just don't go beating the shit out of them, I know a boy(well a man) who's a complete fucking shit head, His father is a "Sensitive new age Guy" & never desciplined this kid in any way & it got so bad that this kid has forced his dad out of his own house.

heh I just never belived in corpral punishment mostly because it never worked for me and I've seen it hardly ever work for other children, and it is very common for parents to go way to far in the beatings.

Being over abusive to a child will make them grow up violent but a slap on the wrist or arse when they misbehave will keep them inline, It's the kids of the people who don't smack their kids who are often worse than the children who were abused, the kids who are never punished grow up thing they can get away with everything & control whoever they like.

I totally agree, even though there are the occassional exceptions. Rearing children is a lot more than just disciplining them when they misbehave, and some people forget that. I've seen really messed up kids, they say "Oh my parents never once hit me" and while they were not violent or unruly, they had other problems because their parents also did nothing else with them (like talks or outings, games, etc).

Amen, brother. Just slap the fucking kid and go on with life. The general rule for me is no bruisings and no bleeding it's fine. I got slapped more than my fair share of times back when I was little but I turned out just fine (twitch). I'm not a father (I'm only 18) but I don't think that calling the police is the best thing for all parties involved.

I used to get beat as a kid. By my mother. She had a special belt for me that was like a whip but heavier and left lines all over my body. I would say I'm sorry please don't hit me (aroung the ages I was 2-10 or 12 I don't remember, I'm pretty sure 10) and she would beat me like hell. It didn't stop until I got old enogh and strong enogh so that I could adoid her hits and wrench the belt from her hand. I usually got beat (getting beat at 4) for hurting my 1 year younger brother when my brother attacked me or something. He once put a rope around my neck and then tied it around his waist and jumped. The rope tightened around my neck and I nearly choked. I took the rope off my neck and beat my brother. I then got a beating from my mothers belt. I sometimes bled. I still remember pleading to her, begging to her not hit me, that I'll be good. I sometimes got beat for doing things on accident. My brother never got beat though even though he deserved it much more. But I turned out ok, at first I was an angry child (and strong consider I exercised and still do a lot) but I T.V. changed me. It showed me the prospects of the future and how human nature might evolve and how human life was almost worth as much a the rest of the animal kingdom. I turned out ok even though I got beaten as a kid. I allieviate some of my tention by coming here at Newgrounds :). Also a kid who is beaten a child doesn't have to grow up to be a mugger,(like those guy who tried to steal my money but I fought him off, thank god he didn't a knife or somethin.) they could turn out ok, just like me, the top kid in his class.

If she can't control him at age six, he'll be terrible as he gets older. She shouldn't be a parent, and she certainly shouldn't be having another child. In a way, the best thing possible would be if he had not only mad her miscarry, but become infertile so she'd never repeat what she's already done. Fucked up, but sometimes the fucked up things are the best things in the long run.

People are so irresponsible.
