I was raised by Christians, always under the influence of a harcore Jehova's Witness... awhile ago, I felt that, the idea of a "god" makes about as much sense as the ancient greek's theory of like 30 gods, or any other theory of god(s). But recently I've thought, maybe, there is something, not an omnipowerful being, but something/one, who can't control everything/free will, or anything really, but can only present opportunities when asked for? I don't really know, it makes as much sense as all other stupid theories tough right? I just stumbled about this thought, because, if you were an atheist, you'd understand, you are not bonded to any strict beleifs, there is not "atheist church". no "atheist law" only room for discovery. Please tell me how you feel, and how a Jesus/god makes sense, and if that little tidbit of an idea of a god, makes ny sense... Please no radical Christian rednecks, please.

I agree, but, how can almost all of the world's population be completely wrong you know, wouldn't you expect that the small/growing group of atheists not to be right, these religious people, they feel so strongly, and I've given the ideas a chance, but, it seems like I'm the only one willing to give "everything" a try, why can't these people just try letting loose, and accepting death, instead of sugarcoating it?

Hey, it's the daily atheist religion bashing thread!
I swear, if some people here did their jobs properly, these threads wouldn't be popping up like this.

Lot's of people are ignorant or stupid.

No.

Because the thought of not existing scares people to the point that they need to make up stories to sleep at night.

Oh come on man, you seriously think 90% of NG is atheist, when I can't go outside and speak my mind on this without getting laughed at or hit? And why are "these threads" such a big deal, I swear, you can't ignore on little icon?

You know, there are more religions then just Christianity and atheism.
I was born in a Christian home, however I remain atheist. Its not that I don't like the religion, nor I think the beliefs are stupid, I just believe it isn't for me. People who are religious, good for them. they have something that they look out too, and feel protected by it.
If you are atheist, then you believe that is you for your future, and this is what I believe. I believe that if I want something, I gotta go get it, me alone. I don't believe supernatural beings can help me in this, cause I believe that I live for me to live. It is a kinda freedom that I love having.

They're a big deal because at least three are made a day, if you searched God in the search bar you'll get at least 8 pages which is 8 pages too many. And most people hit atheists because they aren't like "I don't believe in your God but I respect your beliefs" you spend your entire life proving them wrong just to be able to call them stupid. And it seems like no atheist knows any religion other than Christianity.

same here man, I know that there are hundreds and hundreds of religions out there, or more, and I don't want to bash, but it seems, if there was a period where people were so harshly racist, so ignorant to the shape of the planet, so completely doubtful to anything other than one religion, and over time, all of that has changed, but yet, everyone still seems to stick to these core ideas of racism, one religion being right in the same area in which they started, and that now everything is so definite, when daily, it is being shoved in society's face, that they can NOT be sure of a single thing, it seems, that nothing will really change... Nothing is different in the mind of your average human, not only in America's ever ignorant society, but in the entire world.

I am well aware that the varying faiths of NGers are very diverse, but seriously, was there any point in trying to say something here that has already been posted and overdone to the point of... well, pointlessness?
If you really want to talk with other people who share your views, please post either here, or here. And please, for the sake of us all, do not post another topic like this in General.

Truth is not feelings or perception. It's not because you "feel" like there is something up there that there is.
Atheism is the belief that there is no deity. The reason why people believe that are various.
Stop grouping all atheists together.

Because of the nature in which religion thrives; indoctrination, ignorance, fear.
why can't these people just try letting loose, and accepting death, instead of sugarcoating it?
It's hard for people to accept that one day they are going to die, and that they won't be concscious in any form ever again. Rather than make the most of the life they have now, they convince themselves that they are going to exist in some form forever.

Wow, that has to be the biggest sentence I have ever read in my life :P
You have some great points, but people have gone to war over beliefs. People are not tolerant to other people. It is why there is so many struggles today of people fighting for equality. I have felt myself to be a little prejudice to others, and feeling ashamed for being like that. You will not teach others be less hateful, nor can you teach others to be more caring, If the people don't want to learn.
Its just based on each individual person. What they believe is right to them, let them believe it. Trying to convince others to switch religions, politics etc etc is a big waste of time. If they are happy with there beliefs, let them have them. 99% of time there are not hurting others by doing so, so let them be.

You shut the fuck up, you are so ignorant, do you hear yourself? Don't listen to other people? really, where I live, if I listened to other people, I wouldn't question anything ever said in the bible, you have to atleast give something other than what your mommy told you a chance. Everything isn't a 5 year old's Disney movie, life isn't just laid out there for you. You cannot bash a belief until you try it, how about you tell me what makes you so sure there is a god, and why is should please him/her?

Wow what an ignorant little bitch.
I envy people that believe, because atheist death is kinda lame compared to aternity of happiness. I wont force my beliefs on anyone, however not everyone is considerate as me (i.e. quote)
These are reasons which make me think alot of religious people are dumb, stupid argument points.
"Half the world cant be wrong" the majority is often wrong.
"Scientists cant explain it, so it has to be God." why does that make it god? It was the flying spageti monster.
"There has to be something after death." Either alot of fire and a small pot, or a deep hole with a big box.
Atheism is depressing huh?

I understand this whole ignorance thing, but, where do you draw the line? Where do you say, "Enough is enough, we should not be fighting, but compromising," Where does the ignorance end? I understand they feel strongly, but they should not feel so strongly as to turn on their fellow man, am I mistaken? Has society lost this value of the pursuit of happiness, it's all one goal right, die, go to heaven, why would you let a religious conflict get in the way if all religions agree on that, and the idea to live and let live?

Bashing something isn't trying something. its great that your a theist, I will not try and change that in anyway. it is the main reason why I normally don't talk about my religious background. all what you said can be turned around back onto you, and in that case no one gets ahead. its like me bashing bhuddism with knowing very little about it. Like I have said before, if something is not for you, don't do it. no one forces you to go n rollercoasters when you have fears, so no one should force you to turn religions, or turn any personal beliefs.
