Do you guys think anyone would be able to tell if someone on this board was autistic? I mean an autistic kid would probably have difficulty spelling things, would show very little social skills, would probably be surprised by normal social interactions (like kissing a girl) and might fail to draw the line between fantasy and reality. But I observe this same behavior in most of the NG BBS anyways so...

The new users might seem to have autism, but after about three years, those symptoms will no longer exist.

So Kyle, what does Newgrounds say about your post count? SHUT THE FUCK UPPPPP!

Newgrounds, while low, has a deceny bar because old regulars from 2005-and earlier keep coming back to this site to bitch about how much greater it was back then and how nearly every joke this generation makes is an epic fail compared to their generation of "wins". As long as those hopeless regulars continue to return, there's an easy seperation between stupid users and extremely troubled users.

And I would think somebody who had autism or a condition like that would be warded away from this site to begin with: Seizures, flashes, disturbing images, depression. All the more reasons to stay away from the half-assed comments of the BBS.

Besides, I've only known two people here who actually show any ounce of humanity: Tom himself, because he's married and has a kid, and wwwyzerad who ended up joining the Navy or some station and actually posted a story about his feelings on it and his life thus far. Everybody else just rolls with the punches.

So yes, it'd probably be pretty obvious. That user wouldn't log in for a LONG WHILE if their autism was spiked by anything we said or that they heard from us.

Now YOUTUBE on the other hand, they're a bunch of savages. TO say an autistic person, more than ten or twelve would be lurking there, would not be that far off.

I would say no. The quasi anonymous nature of internet interactions and the crazy stuff people say on message boards would lead me to assume that an autistic guy would either not post for fear of social out-casting or post a lot because he would not be ridiculed as much as in normal society. As for spelling, I don't believe autism effects ones ability to spell.

Depends on the ASD. I know of at least one person who is heavily autistic who was on Newgrounds (Barney Bunch).

Though I'm pretty sure that autism is rampant here. The level of intelligence of the majority of this forum is appalling.

I have Aspberger's which is a mild form of autism so I'm not sure if anyone noticed that here.

Unless we're talking about moderate to severe forms of autism, it's pretty hard to diagnose someone over the Internet. Most people with milder forms like Asperger's are virtually indistinguishable from everyone else.

Screw you with your stereotypes. I have autism (albiet very mild Aspergers) and I spell much better than half the people on the internet. Just to dispel this for your group, SS, and for anyone else wondering, the extremes that we see in the media are NOT true. Einstein was autistic. There are millions of high functioning autistic people. We just think outside the box

Yeah screw stereotypes, even though that's how psychologists make the diagnostic criteria for mental disorders! I'm not schizophrenic, I just think outside the bun!

Stereotypes are different than symptoms. Just because someone is antisocial doesn't mean they're autistic. That's the problem with every self diagnosed autistic person

And to whoever said "assburgers," I doubt you have it when you don't even take it seriously enough torealize how to spell it

Being anti-social and lacking social skills are two different things, but from what I've seen on the board it's something more than that. And the fact that half the people in the thread seemed to admit to having it is definitely alarming.

Me, too. And most people I know who have it don't like when people joke about it, nor do they like it when people call it assburgers
