I, for one, and not going to be a complete dick, and am actually just going to thank you for your service to the United States. I personally am not in the military, however.

And, dickwads, just because you do not support the war, does not mean you do not support the troops. Call me an "imperialist" or whatever shit, but this is one thing I'm not going to be all friendly about. This man is just here to see if there are some fellow soldiers on this forum. He didn't ask for you to tell him that the war he is involved in is all about oil or some shit.

I always greatly appreciate thanks from people. I think that's one of the best parts of being in the military, when someone truly appreciates what you do, because I'm putting my life on the line for this country and some people just don't realize that.

Agreed, 100%. I hate it when people say stupid shit like that. It's sick and wrong. I don't care if you think the war is evil, the troops and officers are good men and women, they need our support.

meh. officers only push papers and organize what the snack is going to be at the platoon/batallion/brigade function: usually cookies. college doesn't mean as much as it did when the position was made because now a lot of enlisted guys have degrees.

Mmm ethnocentrism.

In my country, some people respect soldiers and some don't. I do not.

Why? Because they are baby killers? Because they go out and conquer other countries for no reason?

If those are your reasons, then you don't have a beef with the military, you have a beef with your politicians.

I agree a lot of officers serve no other purpose than to push paper around. That's the one thing I don't want to become. I'm currently enlisted and going through college, and it definitely gives you a better perspective on how the military works than just going through college.

I think all officers should be required to have time in as enlisted members.

Wrong.

The military is made up of people just like you and me. The only way they would go to poor countries and kill people is if enough of them agreed to it. The people in the army could protest and tell the politicians to go fuck themselves. The power of the government lies within it's people, not the other way around.

very true. when a cherry LT shows up at your unit, he's at the lowest level there, because he has the lowest time in service of anybody there and usually acts like a complete doucher because he feels like he's accomplished shit and he hasn't. enlisted time would do them some good.

Clearly the military is not made of people just like you. If you want to tell the politician to go fuck themselves your only choice is to get out or shut your mouth. You truly have no understanding of how the military works.

But then again, you seemingly don't care how the military works or why it exists, or why it is the way it is.

The power of government lies with a few select people.

as far as the leadership quality, the way they run things, and what the priorites are of the men in charge, the military (can't speak for any branch other than the army but i have a hunch) is about as competent at serving our country as the busboy at applebees. it's embarrassing to put on the uniform. i know a guy who died sweeping a roof (yes with a broom, not like checking for mines or something cool) because a colonel told him to "dress it up" in the middle of an area that gets sniper fire on a regular basis. so don't take this the wrong way. thanks but no thanks.

Yeah, I don't go around killing babies and invade backward ass countries out in the desert.

Sorry that no one in the Military has a spine, that or they all enjoy invading countries and killing people.

But then again, you seemingly don't care how the military works or why it exists, or why it is the way it is.

Yeah, it exists to protect the people's rights and freedoms, not invade backass countries in the desert.

WRONG MOTHERFUCKER. The people in Washington only have power if we let them have power. A democracy is ran BY the people, FOR the people. Too many today think that the government owns them and that the government has power over the people while it is the people who give the government power.

If enough people in the military didn't agree with what they were going (which I am sure is right, look at the wars approval rating) and they just got up and left, what can the Government do? They going to get rid of the majority of their fighting force? I am sorry that none of them stand up for what they want, and just sit around mindlessly listening to big brother.

ROFL I'll just say this: I'm glad to be in the Marine Corps.

Don't worry about it, I don't take any offense. I don't feel offended, and it would look really dumb if I flipped out because of what you said.

Awful stuff about that guy who died sweeping a roof. It sounds hard to believe, but, even though I have not personally ever served in the armed forces, I do know that some stupid things, strange things, and terrible things happen to you guys, so, I believe you when you say it.

I'm not lumping all soldiers in one category, and saying they're all evil baby killers. I understand that plenty of people have different reasons for joining the military, and only many mean to do what is deamed "good" by the general public. Some may join the military due to lack of other career choices, or belief that they're "serving their country", but that phrase alone is so loaded, it's meaningless. Some people join the military cause well...they want to kill people.
I just view the military as an apparatus of the state, and thus serving the state's interests, and not the interest of the people. Additionally, the military is the driving force of American imperialism.
Believe it or not, support is more than just saying "I support -insert group-".
Support them where they deserve it, that is, when they disobey their orders.

The measure of the state's success is that the word anarchy frightens people, while the word state does not.

That's what I joined for. Killing people. Did you infer anything else? Am I suppose to have any other goals by being in the military??

Yeah, it exists to protect the people's rights and freedoms, not invade backass countries in the desert.

Too bad we did go invade that back ass country huh. I guess it didn't exist to do that...

WRONG MOTHERFUCKER. The people in Washington only have power if we let them have power. A democracy is ran BY the people, FOR the people. Too many today think that the government owns them and that the government has power over the people while it is the people who give the government power.

The day that you become president you can prove me wrong. The day that anyone in Washington or that runs the country listens to what you have to say you can prove me wrong.
The only power you have is to choose between two people every so often years for various offices.
Not that these people have paid their fair amount of money and sucked enough cocks to rival the smallest 100 countries in the world.

i suppose there are two ways possible for us to "go about this."
1. rise together and tell the government we won't fight anymore - who's supposed to start this revolution? nobody is going to up and decide hey, i want to stand up and try and organize a mutiny, as it is treason which can be punishable by death, and if it got as far as you think it's supposed to, i'm sure it would.
2. just leave by yourself - most of the people in the army are ages 18-22. this means we've got a lot of life to live after we get out of the army. going awol (absent without leave) completely fucks your credit, and makes you pretty much as undesirable to hire as a murderer, and that's besides the fact that you're a fugitive on the run. are you willing to live the rest of your life like that for your beliefs mister finger pointer?

They going to get rid of the majority of their fighting force?

no, they'll take our money, lock you down on post, make you to feel like an outcast and eventually put you in prison. FEDERAL POUND ME IN THE ASS PRISON.

I am sorry that none of them stand up for what they want, and just sit around mindlessly listening to big brother.

you don't know a fucking thing about what we think. even the dudes that agree with the war want out of iraq and afghanistan because you get mortared in an open field, and we aren't allowed to return fire for fear of hitting an innocent. there are so many restrictions on what we're allowed to do over there that it's pretty much unfightable. it isn't a matter of standing up for what you want, it's a matter of being a dumbass who signed a contract, and waiting for it to expire.

Go read 1984, people give the government power, not the other way around.

look i'm sure you feel like a fucking genius because you've read george orwell books and you're in a political class at school or whatever, but the fact of the matter is unless you're in these theatres of war, you have NO fucking clue what you're talking about as far as who is and who isn't killing babies, and unless you're in the military, you have NO fucking right to make moral judgements about people because they don't live out some fantasy you have put in your head from watching too many che guevarra documentaries. and if you REALLY cared about the wars, you'd go talk to the people in charge about it instead of some random dudes on the bbs in your parents basement because i promise you 110% that those mother fuckers CONTROL US. grow up. seriously. fucking wannabe hippy.

i've been in the army for almost 3 years. like i said, i can't speak for the marine core, but the army? it isn't one or two idiots getting through. it's taking people and turning into beer bellied, alcoholic, assholes who hate their lives and they think the only way it'll get better is to move up the rank structure. it's brainwashing of sorts. the one or two that get through are people like me, who look at the army from a 3rd person view and go what the fuck? you guys are complete dumbasses! and get out like everyone should do. i'm not making a generalization, i'm posting my observations over the past 3 years of dealing with every type of person in the army every day. i'm not just some guy here. :)
