I've heard that it is pretty good, but I'm not sure if I should download it or not.

Linux?
Depends how much you like doing simple things in a really round-a-bout and awkward manner.

It's more secure and more customizable than Windows, but has less compatibility with programs, unless you download a program called 'Wine'.

It has a steep learning curve, so if you are willing to overcome that then give it a go.

It depends. Linux is better than Windows/Macs in some ways, but just remember that Linux is much more complicated and won't run Windows/Mac programs. There are Linux alternatives to a lot of programs though, and you can use a Windows Emulator/Wine/VirtualBox to run you old Windows Programs if you need them
If you can handle a little learning then download it.

I'd also like to use it, but I have no idea what I'm doing or if my PC could run it, I'm basically using a piece of crap.
And if I could use FL Studio. :/

Somehow I don't think you have enough computer knowledge to install Linux.

There are different versions of Linux. They're called distributions. The main one is Ubuntu. Seeing as they're free, you might want to try them out in a Virtual PC or VirtualBox. There's one that's only 50MB too. It's called DSL (Damn Small Linux).

I wouldn't recommend it unless you are using an incredibly old computer and all you really want to use it for is office software/web browsing. For a normal home computer I would recommend getting Vista and upgrading to Windows 7 when it comes out.

I downloaded ubuntu studio, it's a linux distro aimed mainly at multimedia, just installed it and it looks great. Plus it comes with tons of applications for sound, video and graphics.

He could be a Lynx, or Linux.
But, Linux is good. But if Windows is working fine for you. Don't bother. Linux is also different in many ways, so it takes time to learn it all. Growing up with Windows is one of the reasons I still use it. Because I know it all too well. I have tried Ubuntu. It's good, but I like Windows 7 much more.

Its a fucking pain in the ass, and if you dont know much about computers then it is not worth it, but if your looking to design your own custom UI then it is fun and rewarding.

What's with the stereotype that all Linux distros use only command line and that you have to configure everything and you have to compile all your software? I'm a semi-computer-literate guy and I can run Ubuntu fine.

And Mint doesn't take forever to install like Gentoo does.
