I hate texting. I mean, I really really, really hate it.
It's the most impersonal way to conduct your life. It's was convenient once or twice to use a text message, but now-- people are fucking breaking up relationships through text messages. I've read about that. Talk about cowardice.

My friend was fired through a text message last year. Geez...
Before, I remember, the booty call was the greatest thing that I could get on a Friday evening... to talk to the person, to flirt, to get an opportunity to communicate. Or to stumble on it by mistake.

Now, I get a message less than 160 characters:
"Fuck @ 8?"

That's just cheap on my opinion. Not even worthwhile to respond.
Plus, it takes FOREVER to type something in..

Why not just call the person and save the time that it would take to type on a 3 inch type-surface?

Dude, wouldn't it be awesome if you could record your voice and send it to the other person and they could reply, like voice text messages?
Too bad that will never happen.

Texting doesn't really accomplish much. It's almost like instant messaging. It always, 'how are you?' or 'r u ok?' and 'what you doing?' or it's a joke about some random stuff in the news. That's all it is. I don't understand how some or my friends go through like 2000 a month. I think I've only ever typed 20 in my whole life.

So I can do other shit. When talking on the phone that's what I have to focus on for it to be a worthwhile conversation. With texting, i can get other shit that i have to get done first and then respond whenever i want. It's just much more convenient, although yes, much less personal.

And you're complaining about getting a easy booty call text? I thought the whole point of a booty call is just for sex, not any of that connection shit.

In conclusion, I like texting for random conversations through out the day if i feel like talking to a friend but don't want to devote all my time to them. Texting is also really useful for flirting since you have time to think of what you're gonna say and can include as many sexual innuendos as possible. But it should not be used to have an important conversation of any kind.

My (now broken) phone can do that.

Anyway, I like texting and all, but using it for really personal things? Not for me, nah.

well, I just had an argument with someone, who always texts me and I always CALL BACK.
And we had a huge argument about this... I hate the texts and straight-to-the-point. He hates the talk and the ability to drive a conversation.

It was a fierce argument, that could be said... hence, my post.

Because technology has made people dumb, namely teenagers. I too, hate text messaging. My sister does it non-stop and questions me for not wanting to text. I find it painfully slow and unimportant. Its convenient to talk to my friend I hardly see but as for doing it all day whenever I can, FUCK THAT.

I was just saying, I could send voice recordings in text messages.

Anyway, if one had unlimited texting, back and forth voice recordings would be cheaper than an actual phone call, right?

That's not flirting... that's cold mechanical nothingness.
I remember back in the 90s, everyone talked about sex talk though email. It was the silliest things...

"Oooohhhh, I rub your pussy. My fingers savor the delicate tang of its nector while spreading its petals wide open."

That, I think, is a step up from what people text...
"yr tits = best. LOL"

I find texting too impersonal, things I type always sound wrong and it ends in confusion or arguments.
I call people all of the time now, texting isn't worth it really.

Texting is like IM except you don't have to reply right away. It allows you to leave a conversation on hold, and with a few hours of practice you can text almost as fast as you can type on a keyboard. Better yet, get a phone with a full keyboard, like the one I have. But I have to agree, being fired/dumped/etc, through text is just stupid.

Breaking up over texts seems convenient for most. They don't have to worry about guilt that way. Still makes them a pussy though.

Texting was better before textspeak. People do that because it supposedly saves money. I've sent a text message, normal grammar, 9 average length words, it was 10p. I sent another message with 3 words, still 10p.

Thank God for phone credit.

I couldn't agree more. I always call people. Also, when I do text (which is rare) then I always use proper spelling, punctuation and grammar. None of this 'hi der how r u?' crap.

Costs too much, takes forever to send and receieve, sometimes certain phones can't view files sent by different phones, etc.

Can you not concentrate enough for a phone call in the midst of your busy life? I mean, really, what the fuck could you be doing to no be able to talk to someone on the phone? Brain surgery? Lockpicking?

Seriously, folks.

Texting does have it's advantages, for example texting in public is a much less arrogant way of communicating than phone calls. It really annoys me how the phone companies are forcing everyone to text by charging outrages amounts for calls.

Arrogant? Jesus dude, do you think that anyone in the world cares what you're doing? Most people are too busy with their own trivial shit to keep track of your activities.

That's exactly what I do. In a matter of fact, I don't have a single girl/guy who texts like that actually. It's kind of surprising.

Because it's silent, you can sent messages to your friends in public without having to talk really quiet so you don't embarrass yourself. You aren't forced to say something back straight away. You can be sent a text and not have to reply until 20 minutes later, in a phone call you have a few seconds to think up a witty reply. It's a shit load cheaper than phone calls. You can do it at school in class without getting caught. There are a million reasons why texting is better then phone calls, the only thing I like about phone calls is it's faster so if you don't have a lot of time or you can't be stuffed waiting for a reply just ring them. Otherwise I prefer to text, and speed is no issue to me, after a while I get so used to texting I can write a full message in less than 30 seconds.

You can easily do that yourself by recording whatever you have to say, and then to send it as a MMS message to someone. However, that has already been created. It's called voicemail!

Text messages are convient in some situations, but what eally pisses me off is when people try to have really long, full-fledged conversations with me over texts. I feel like asking sometime: Are you that insecure about yourself you cannot talk over the phone? I mean, I know you aren't doing anything that important that youhave to text me.... ugh.
