I went into the dollar store in the mall the other day. Everything in a dollar store should cost a dollar, right? Well, I went to buy a soda, and it cost $1.25. With tax it cost about $2.00. This seems like bullshit.

I would never go in there if I didn't want a soda. It smells like Carpet-Fresh and Shake-n-Bake. And it's sticky.

How do you type "almost 2 dollars" when you mean 1.32?
And where the fuck do you live that they charge sales tax on groceries?

There are two dollar stores in my area. One where everything is priced so that with tax, it costs one dollar, ad one where everything is priced so that with tax, it comes to a whole dollar value, like 5.00, 10.00, or 67.00.
My 1,337th post (the second one I made in that topic).

No taxes on Pop, or... well, the vast majority of foodstuffs that can be purchased in a grocery store. At least not in the state of Michigan, though I'm fairly certain that's US-wide.

That's how they can sell it for a dollar and stay in business.

Well with the current economy I'm not surprised. We can't assume that it means a type of dollar that has a static value. It fluctuates there as much as it would everywhere else in the US.

Too true. I know the ones near me are filled with children's toys that are coated with lead paint, and shitty food items.
Party.

I don't think it's called the dollar store because everythings a $1, I think it means they sell the cheapest manufactured shit they can get their hands on.

Exactly. Stupid McDonalds. I went their to get a small soda once and only had a dollar in change and the total price was $1.09. I had to look for nine cents just to get one small soda...

It depends what KIND of dollar store you go to! Dollar General's and Family Dollar's stuff don't cost a dollar. Dollar Tree IS a dollar, EVERYTHING + tax.

There is a family dollar and a dollar general across the street from each other where I live. They seem to rival quite a bit, and the prices are pretty low. But not a dollar! >:(

I know in Ohio all beverages except for water and milk have tax on them. Here if you get a sweet tea from mcdonalds instead of a dollar it is $1.07.
