Yeah, I've grown up learning the word "soda" but I went out west to visit my family some years ago and they were calling it pop.

In Tennessee, most of us call it soda because we don't live in the early 1900's.
most people in the midwest call it pop. i have friends in michigan, denver and wisconsin and they all say pop. I dont really call it soda either though, because to me soda is soda water. so i usually call it whatever the drink is. Like Jack with a splash of soda.

I didn't grow up in any specific location. I've been all over the east coast US. From Texas to New York (where I live presently). Everywhere I have been its been called soda mostly.
Here in Massachusettes we call it soda, I know nobody who calls it "pop"

yeah I hear english people saying "soft drinks" and "whimpy bars" and, that just shows they relate all their drinks to booze, lol, which is ok by me I guess, but I think it def says something
I say soda. I'm from Albany, New York, and that's the consensus around here. However, there are some areas in western and northern NY that say pop instead. Mostly those people live in smaller communities that are fairly rural.
