We have computers. This is a fact.

Our computer technology is growing day by day. This is also a fact.

As computer technology grows, we are able to simulate more and more things inside a computer program. Again, fact.

In the future, technology will have grown to the point in which we are able to simulate a universe, very much like our own. It will begin like our own with a bang, and planets will come into existence within the program. Amongst all these planets, will be a simulated Earth with simulated animals that will eventually evolve into simulated humans.

To these simulated humans, our reality has become like a God. We are able to influence their reality in any way we see fit, but in the interests of science we instead leave them to their own devices in order to study human nature.

Eventually, these humans will grow technologically advanced enough that they will eventually invent computers of their own. These computers will grow in technology until the point where the simulated humans themselves will be able to simulate their own reality. And they will do so in the interests of science.

By extension, it is possible that this has already happened. While we may think that we are the first to create a simulated universe, perhaps it has already happened before, and we are a simulated universe for an even higher reality than ours. Perhaps this higher reality itself is only a simulation of an even higher reality. We don't know how far this could go back. Perhaps there is an infinite chain of simulations, all in the interests of discovering the true nature of humanity.
