Big surprise, my iPod failed miserably. I'm about to purchase an Archos 605 because it seems to be a great deal but I have just a few apprehensions. I'm wondering, are there any owners of this device? Can you still purchase the plug-ins for the web browser and whatnot? I tried their website, but there isn't even a section regarding the hardware anymore, which worried me. Thanks for any help.

I'd say make sure you can return it if there's any problems before buying it.

He's already had a bad experience with the iPod, there's no point him shelling out for what is basically the same product except with the added gimmick of a touch screen.
OP, I don't know about the MP3 player you are looking at but if there's any information it would most likely be on the company's website.

Oh and if you want an MP3 player, get one of the cheap 20$ jobbies. They last a fucklot longer than you'd think.

I suppose I'll summarize a bit more.
Approx. half of the Archos machines that I sold to customers came back with issues. The fact that you have to pay to get web browsing or even codecs to play some videos is BS. Bad experience or not with Ipod, the Touch is the best out there. If you jailbreak the bitch, its powers are endless. You could not do half of what a Touch can do with an Archos.

I had an iPod and I didn't care for it. I then got a Zune and its outstanding. I'd highly recommend it.

Personally, I never buy/download anything from the internet without having seen a review section that is possitive and has absolutly none of the "omg it broke in 2 days!" or "this has a trojan".
No review section means it's probably a faulty product. I say look it up and see if you can find user opinions of it. You could probably get a descent sized Sansa for about the same price. It has horrible video and picture stuff, but the mp3 works perfectly fine.

While you may have had bad experiences with the iPod line, I highly recommend getting an iPod Touch, it has a ton of apps/games (over 50,000), and if you don't mind waiting, in September a new model will come out with even better features. Plus, if/when you jailbreak it, it is just incredible.
