I think it depends. If I go to bed at 3 in the morning and have to wake up at 7 the next day (yeah, real smart thing to do), then I will want an alarm clock. But for the weekends when I can wake up when I please I prefer to do it on my own. No stress, no surprise, and no obligation to HAVE to get up.
