Think about it, the slang term "pwn" and its variants, "pwned", and "pwnage", all derive themselves from the misspelling of own, owned, and ownage due to the fact that the "p" key is next to the "o" key.
Now I don't speak for the whole internet, but a mere suggestion from me, is that the pronunciation of the root word "pwn" is the same as the word own. HOWEVER, the 10th season of South Park comes along, and in the World of Warcraft episode, Cartman's character says "you're about to get pwned", thus changing everyone's opinion of the pronunciation into one solitary sound of "powned", which I don't think is correct.
How come South Park gets to have that much effect on old internet slang?
