I'm not up on the history of the problems of the lists, It was a small joke because gfox posted that I had passed him. It was later pointed out that he would pass me at some point because my higher rankings are due to me depositing everyday. So I want to thank everyone who works on all the lists. It would seem that the Fulps would want these lists. It is less work for them to do.

not really. If the future VP list is automative just like the other lists then they won't have to do any work. I'm sure liljim could make a top 300 or 500 VP automative list fairly easily. He just has many tasks he has to do to keep this site running smoothly. And that's what the fulps want.. they want this site to run smoothly, and give flash artists a fair chance with having their flash judged by the NG community.

And no, I won't be posting updates... it's not an issue of finding a way to do so. Of course there's a way to do so: post one. But I won't, because I said I'd stop this list, I've stopped it, and that's that.

As for tracking it? Well, of course. I'm still going to track the people around me in VP. But somewhere in the 25-50 range, nowhere near the top 500 I used to track.

Thanks for the attempted edumacationing of staphita there, Bonus. But I wouldn't phrase it as "doesn't have the ability." I COULD have kept updating this list, but I chose not to. I wanted to show Wade that we listmakers CAN compromise and are sensitive to his concerns... and I knew that liljim would be coding a VP list of some sort soon, so... there's really no point in continuing. We'll just have a little break from VP listings, either unofficial OR official... until that time comes.

And not EVERY list has stopped. My pentalist, albeit in reduced form, is still going. Twice as often, too... just updated it today.

The work is in the initial making of the list, yes. And then it's up to the database server to churn out each list every day... and up to the webservers to handle the traffic. It's just that simple.

I'm only slightly sorry I never made it on. It would have been cool, but I just am not dedicated enough to blamming and protecting to have really ever got on the list. Perhaps when I hit another spree as I did a couple months ago and rank up like 2 times in one week I'll get up to something a little more respectable voting power-wise, but until then I'll just flounder in exclusively depositing.

I've still got something to shoot for, however, getting into the top 500 for everything. Experience, Voting Power, and Blam/Protect. I'm really only close with B/P, but even then I'm 150ish off which is no small feat, especially when you're as unmotivated as I seem to be towards this type of thing.

Either way, I'm sure you'll see my name once the official Newgrounds lists go up.

I'd gone on much longer than either of the two previous VP listmakers... burnout was inevitable one day, but an artificial end came instead... to me, that's much more satisfying and less depressing.

People are ALWAYS rising while other people are falling. There's no pure consistency. Just look at any update of the list from the past two years. Tons of fluctuations.

Depositing's better than nothing. With any luck, you'll hit the top 500 by the time the official NG lists come online.

The top 50 VP or exp? It's quite possible to make the top 50 VP list without the top 50 exp (or VP) users quitting depositing (just get to EGSC, and your 60% bonus will take you past some people who are way ahead of you in exp but only have a 0-10% bonus in VP, like humantarget (10 VP + 10% bonus = 11.00 total VP... he's #1 on the exp list, but could get booted out of the top 50 VP list soon, depending on how many people get rankups in the coming weeks and months).

But it's much more difficult to make the top 50 exp list under the same conditions, so... that's why I asked if you meant the VP or exp top 50.

I dunno anything about the previous discussions but I did discuss about this subject during SK's vacation. Thanks to Yoink, the updates were temporarily delayed and some of you considered stopping your lists because some changes were made into the profiles and we were expecting some changes into the stats system in a "short" future. :D Oh yeah, we are still waiting for these changes and they might never exist because (like you said) it wasn't officialy promised. Oh well.

Actually once every one is EGSC, who ever has a higher lvl has more voting power so once everyone is EGSC, and they keep depositing everyday they will always be the top 50. Unless you have a higher lvl and EGSC.

I dunno anything about the previous discussions but I did discuss about this subject during SK's vacation. Thanks to Yoink, the updates were temporarily delayed and some of you considered stopping your lists because some changes were made into the profiles and we were expecting some changes into the stats system in a "short" future. :D Oh yeah, we are still waiting for these changes and they might never exist because (like you said) it wasn't officialy promised. Oh well.

Ahhhh, okay. Thanks for the refresher course. I didn't realise you were referring to that YoinK's-profile-changes episode in January.

You get weird smilies when you try to come up with an original one in the middle of the night during an all-night X-Files chat, man. The most remarkable thing about my smiley is that each character was set on that very night and hasn't changed in the decade+ since then. Well, okay, at times I've done "special situation" ones, like #8-}> for bugged-out eyes or #;-}~~~~~ for drooling over something and so forth, but... heh.

That could be interesting. Many of us would be ready to continue this list (or a part of it) but life always gets in the way. I wonder how gfox never missed a Saturday O_o. He probably already explained it and I forgot it. bah.

Actually, I came close two or three times to missing a Saturday. Either by sleeping all day and not having done the update before I went to sleep... or by being out of town (but the main time that happened was Christmas weekend, and I had THOUGHT I'd have to update on Friday instead of Saturday but I managed to squeeze it in on Saturday after packing and getting ready for my trip). I was just lucky that I was able to continue the only-on-each-and-every-Saturday streak from the very first top 500 to the very LAST top 500. Pure luck. And magic. #;-}>

Well of course, man. But you underestimate entropy. People stop depositing all the time, and that tends to lower your level and your VP over time, eh? Take D0GMA. 0 exp out of a possible 70 exp this past week. It's sad but true: regulars often get too busy to deposit on NG, and that is when you must MERCILESSLY TAKE THEM DOWN ON THE VP RANKINGS BY PASSING THEM IN EXP (if you're at the same b/p rank as them, of course).

It's hard sometimes, but it has to be done. And it ensures change on the lists. No list is set in stone. Though the closest to it is probably the top 50 stickerlist. #;-}>

When/if an automated Voting Power list is made, will there also be an automated assigment of Voting Power rank on each user's profile? Also, do you know whether there will be a way to track one's progress toward a change in whistle level?

I doubt they will add a Voting Power rank in the user profile... and whistle level.. most people will just be at silver no matter how much they try to progress.

liljim said that a top voting power list AND voting power ranking in our profiles are both quite doable. He's not rushing to make the new lists on NG yet, but once he does, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see VP ranking in our profile pop up soon afterwards. Why do you doubt that? O_o

It's not like it's BBS POSTER rank, yanno. VP rank doesn't encourage anything that exp rank and b/p rank being in our profiles don't already encourage (using the portal, basically).

Indeed. And to answer the guy's question: no, no way to track your whistle progress is going to be added anytime soon, so don't bother asking. I'd think BBS poster rank in our profiles is actually more likely than that. Heh.
