Obviously missed the 'do not hit with a metal rod' warning label on the bottom.

Well, first thing, you're going to want to abuse your brother. Heavily. FUCKING HEAVILY.
Shove that metal rod in his ass kick him in the nutsack as hard as you can.

Also, you could send it to sony, but maybe we can work something out on NG first.
Can you elaborate a bit more as to what happens when you insert a disc?

Call Sony. Try and make sure that there isn't a dent in the body of the console. Just say it's stopped reading discs, and pretend to not know if they can prove it was hit. Just say that you have no idea what they're on about.

On another note, why the hell did he hit your PS3 with a metal rod!?

Call Sony... It's going to cost you around 150 bucks.

I live in Belgium, and when I got my PS3, I got some sort of contract (guarantee) that I can send it to Sony or whatever to fix it or either give me a new one.
Mine is acting fucked up and weird now for no reason!
And every single person that I know with a PS3, has had to send it in because it broke...
PS3's are made to break, I mean seriously, I payed 400 euros (about 560 dollars) and after only a few months, it fucks up! I mean, come on, the PS2 cost me only about 150 and that was +game, extra controller and memory cards and I've had it for years; not one single thing wrong with it!
And what's even worse, is that the PS3 works with a hard drive. So if I send it in and get a new one, all of my files will be gone! So now I have to buy an external hard drive to copy the files onto it first! Fucking rip-offs, I'm really pissed at Sony!
Well, that's modern technology for ya...

Uh, sorry for ranting, but I guess you should send it to Sony and ask for a new one.
And kick your brother's ass while you're at it.

Send it into Microsoft and pull your hard drive off so you don't lose any save files.

But seriously, send it in to Sony.

Ditto, including myself. It cost me $160 to have fixed by Sony because the warranty had just expired a month earlier. I hope some firm starts a class-action suit over this shit.

You should definitely backup your files just in case, but when I sent in my system they didn't actually clear anything off the hard disk.

I've never had a fucking problem with my ps3. What the hell is wrong with you people? Do you put yours through torture tests or something? If you use it like a normal game system, it'll act like one. Oh and btw, you kicking your bros ass ftw.

If it is only disks not getting read, maybe your disc eye (reader) got moved/broken?

I don't know if that's what they use, I had the same problem for my 360 (without the rod) and it costs 30$ to get a new eye. But you have to put it in yourself ;P.

I'm almost positive you can send it in to sony and get either a refurbished one for a decent price or get it repaired. Just call tech support and see if they tell you what to dow ith it.

I did that with my PS2- payed 40 bucks.

That's what happens with early adopters unfortunately. Personally I am holding out on buying one till the slimmer PS3 comes out.

Just go to the sony website and email them but if the ps3 has a huge crack in it they won't fix it. My ps3 got the YLOD a week ago and i had to send it to Texas.
