Well, most of the shit I listen to is gone. The Beach Boys, AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith. Classic rock, you know? Not gone, but not producing. AC/DC's last attempt at an album was an amazing let down in my opinion. The 60s must have been rockin', what with the Doors, Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Beatles and the Animals. That was genuine good, meaningful music. Something this generation lacks.

I have found a bit of good news recently, though. It'll be considered "Classic" soon, I'm sure. Probably even by these 8 year old kids growing up now. Look into bands like Franz Ferdinand, real good club music off Tonight and Blood. Muse brings a lot of classic feelings to the table, well written and composed songs with some bitchin' guitar. Another hit from the Power Trio format is Wolfmother, but they recently disbanded, and the singer reformed, making a quartet. So new music from Wolfmother wont be the same, but their first album is amazing. Classic rock influences.

Oh, and if you're into political rock, check out Rise Against. Swing Life Away and Hero of War are their slower songs, don't judge them based off that.

Other than that, I agree. Need more talent.

Pop music was pretty good in the 60's and 70's, it was alright in the 80's and early 90's, but now it's all shit that's crapped out of sweaty white guy's asses while they pick out random teenagers to be the newest star. There is still good music that is being made today, but you have to look. You won't find it on popular radio or TV. All people care about today are pop sensations that can sell out and make the big bucks. There are few original, talented, creative bands that are recognized as such.

Why would you put a band on your label? You could just get a popular chick and make her lip sync all of her songs. It's just that easy. Music is hardly creative or expressive anymore, it's just a way for corporations to get more cash, pop stars to live in luxury for doing pretty much nothing, and for decent, hardworking bands to get fucked over.

Another fag, ominously generalizing all music of a generation because most sucks ass. According to your logic is that:

Oh man, I can't find any good music in this cesspool, all I used to love is gone and THIS FUCKING KIDS will ruin us.
THIS FUCKING KIDS
KIDS

To tell you the truth, you belong to the very same generation this "kids" belong. Why not using words like "peers" or "people"? You know why you don't do it? Why won't everyone that pinpoints similar shit (i.e videogames, tv, movies) doesn't?

Because you want to look sagelike, you need to be seen as "a seasoned connoisseur", when in fact you are a fucking snot (like most of us, eh, eh?) that just so happens to like old music.

There's at least some par music in every genre of music ever created, that includes Pop and Rap and HipHop, you name it.

There's poor, very poor music in every genre of music ever created, that includes classic, rock, alternative, electronic and metal.

"But Alex, I don't like that kind of music" Well was it made for you? Why would you like something that wasn't intended for you to like, or viceversa, why would they like something it wasn't intended for them?

All I can I say is to treasure you precious music, and to look underground as there's some people that care.

Go underground or listen to old shit, I prefer to stick with metal, preferably symphonic metal.

Our generation of music is AMAZING, and better than it ever has been and likely will be. Silversun Pickups, Mew, White Rabbits, Paper Route, Edison Glass, Sigur Ros, Underoath, Thursday... There's amazing music out there, you just have to look for it. And if the people you know aren't listening to it, introduce them.

I would consider Metallica part of my generation and definitely don't consider them as garbage. So long as there are bands like Metallica and Linkin Park, we are fine.

How the fuck is Metallica part of your generation? Their popularity began well before you were even conceived. Yes, they are still creating new music and touring, but so are many of the bands from generations before. Aerosmith, U2, AC/DC just to name a few are still making new records and touring, and they are also not part of your generation. Metallica has been active since 1981 (I believe, give or take a few years).

Also, how can you even compare the genious and musically gifted band of Metallica to Linking Park? Metallica has made numerous contributions to the music world, and made major innovations. Not to mention their complex songs, song structures, solos, etc. Linkin park hasn't done any of that.

You're not completely off point- there is a trend nowadays where most mainstream pop songs are devoid of real talent, but there are still people who don't accept the garbage standards of the mainstream and go on to make some really good, thoughtful music. I agree with what many others have already said- the really good music is falling to the underground, because the surface is getting so overstocked with trash produced by pop culture that it can no longer nurture music with depth.

I think I know what you're concerned about- a future where humans become mindless animals prone to unthinking violence and mediocrity in every field. I don't think there's a need to worry though, because there will always be thinking people somewhere in the world- it's just that there was a time in history where the number of those people on the surface of the media maxed out, and now it seems like it might just drop to a new low.

All you have to do is avoid the mindless music, and help others to experience how much more intense the feeling from thoughtful music is, so that hopefully more people will break away from a simple and weak existence. When you adapt to changing times, the current generation's situation actually seems like more fun to handle- it reminds me of those apocalyptic stories where the majority has their ears shut to the few who are working to bring back values to society (or something like that).

Anyway, I think I've said too much already. Just felt like speaking my mind a bit, don't care if anyone agrees/understands so rant away if you must.

Music is just evolving and to us who grew up with talented singers and the like its a little hard to accept. Regardless we have to accept it because its here to stay. It'll change in time but only then.

Oh for crying out loud, grow up you hypocrite! Some music is shit, some music is good, and when you get that through your thick skull you'll know how stupid and pathetic your argument is. Really, I'm getting fed up with "oh wahh I don't like the music of today because it's different". What, you don't think there's diversity in our music still? Jesus fucking christ!

WritersBlock is right, we already hear enough of of that argument, and it isn't really good.
Music is music...as long as you enjoy it or are relaxed by it, then it's still music, no need to give shit to opinions.

Oh, I think I can see where your coming from, there ARE a lot of unappreciated artists who do a lot more hard work. I guess that is a huge positive.

I don't care how crappy the music is, if someone can make 4 million dollars by singing crap with barely thought out lyrics, and then succesfully make millions want MORE of that crap, then all I can say is high five.

Hey, remember that the kids you are referring to are called "the mainstream kids". You won't find any outside Myspace and Facebook when it comes to the internet, so all you're doing here is ranting with your other old buddies from back when 80 music was somehow cool. Screw you. It's the 70s where everything kicked ass in music, it wasn't all about that Disco crap that was never what people make it out to be.

Hey, everybody! FUCK LED ZEPPLIN. Fuck AC/DC, fuck Guns n' Roses, fuck Bruce Springsteen, fuck whatever your favorite shitty 70's/80's sexist, homophobic cokehead cock-rock band that you worship.

Hip-hop is an incredible art form that none of you know shit about. Hip hop can be the most lyrically and musically experimental, evocative, and thought-provoking music-listening experience that you close-minded motherfuckers refuse yourselves because you've heard two 50 Cent songs in your life.Hereareexamplestogetyou started.
