Ok, so I'm working on this really large project with some guys using Flash CS3, AS2, and we've already run into some limits (the 1,600 line code limit). We are estimating the project to finish at over 9000 library items (yes, over 9000! ;D), we already have 3001 library items, and we wanted to know if Flash CS3 has any sort of limit to the number of objects in the library, since it would be a huge blow if we can't complete this because of library limits. Does anyone know if Flash CS3 has a library limit for AS2? And if they do, do they knoe what it is?

Help would be much appreciated.

Could you tell me where this limit lies?

I've seen somewhere that someone got to 3140, and then no codes were executed and the syntax checker didn't work.

I'm interested to know what you're making - why does it need such a ridiculous amount of library symbols?

Check my sig. Also, I read that too, but apparently it only happened in AS3, not AS2...

I know Flash 8 had a limit of 16001. It could be any combination up to 1601, too... 1601 frames or library items, or combined to make 16001.

Not sure about CS3...I'd like to think they upped the limit and it's computer dependent...

Ah yes, I know someone who's working on that with you. (Taronuke).

Try Google. First link says 3140 though.

We saw.

This is for AS3, what about AS2?

I tried Google, it only gave me the number 3140 for AS3, we are using AS2.

maybe you can reduce the amount of items in the library by using spritesheets: load 'em at runtime with mc.loadMovie, then copy to a bitmapdata and draw with copypixels/draw (depends on what you want to do) single sprites into a mc to display the graphics

Brilliant, It is highly unlikely we're going to end up with over 16,000 symbols.
The symbol limit isn't tied to the frame limit, because the frame limit does not
seem to take into account movie clips, since we already have well over 16,000 frames
movie clips considered.

Hm..

"16,000 symbol instances: Flash does not allow more than 16,000 symbol instances in a Flash movie"

I'm not sure, but it sounds like they mean symbols on the timeline, i.e. if you have the same library symbol twice in the movie then that counts as two instances.
