Avast! Antivirus

Any reviews or suggestions/ ratings on Avast! Anitvirus. It's my first time using it, and my computer is running fast. I scanned my computer with it and no viruses were detected.

is this a good program?

It's decent enough. Especially for something that's free.

I like NOD32 better, but Avast! is a great free program. I've heard it also checks for malware, which NOD doesn't do.

After a couple of pants-wetting times when I walked over to my computer, while the sound was still high on it and earing, "VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED!" I got used to it.

But yes, I have never had any problems with it, seems to keep all the bad stuff off.

I use it on my laptop, and all I really use my laptop for is porn, no problems with it yet.

To people complaining about the sound:

Wait until the pop-up comes up that says "Virus database updated". Then go to your volume mixer then turn down the GUI component all the way down.

Aye it's a nice enough program, I use it myself. The "virus database has been updated" sound is a +1 in my opinion.

dude unless you have a faster computer, avast sucks cock. probably why its free... its about as good as nortan and i think most people will agree its horrible

It is a good anti-virus, but if you're the kind of person who's on-guard 24/7, even while in games, you'll need something that's less of a memory hog, I recommend Avira AntiVir, if you registry hack it past the ads.

It's good for a free AV program, but it misses a LOT of stuff. There's been viruses and spyware that has been in the news that Avast has missed. It's definitely better than nothing, but there's better out there. If you need free protection then you could use it, but I'd be on the lookout for better stuff when people recommend it.
