But anyway, it would not be stupid at all to pay per click on something. If so, then google.com is retarded right? Cause they get paid by advertisers PER CLICK. The reason being is people are actually SEARCHING for those sponsor adds and so they click it because they want or need it! Like lets say I type in "microphone" on google. I see the sponsored add saying "CHEAP MICROPHONE!" Well, I click it. Google just got 2$. *sometimes 5$*

Advertisers pay a shitload of money to be on the top f google.

Twittrer, however, just has completley random ads barely anyone cares about. And because barely anyone stays on the site, the size of the servers and such get increasingly huge and so Twitter has to pay more! They could easily make a bot to delete all inactive userpages.., now that would save them a lot of money.

So what I'm trying to say is, Twiiter is screwed. It is going to be a place where celebrities hang out and say stuff like, "I'm watching a movie!". Pretty soon no one will care what the celebs are doing. And so it will just be a ste with famous people updating their status. They have everything they nneed, they wont care about the adds.

Now then again, I am sure Twitter may attract people to the famous people... and therefor recieve ad profit.. but i dont know.

Firstly: Twitter don't have any adverts at the moment and I won't even bother addressing all your points because you don't seem to understand the basic value behind twitter. Imagine: You have 30 Million people going to you everyday and telling you "I am doing this and I enjoy this", you'd be rich because you have all this information about specific people, this is the holy grail of marketing. Imagine you know everything about everyone, imagine the targeted advertising you could do.

Twitter costs are relatively small compared to the value of it, it's the same as youtube: youtube loses over $500,000,000 every year, but they control the majority of the internets video supply so it's a valuable asset to google. Money isn't the only valuable thing.

So your saying Twitter is just a research center for marketers?

I never liked Twitter... Facebook but only the statuses. And there`s famous people. But who really wants to follow people around like that all day?

What? Stop listening to the voices in your head bud, I never even heard of the Twitter sucks bandwagon. I used twitter for one month and hated it. Its called an opinion, havent you heard of one? I got 50 followers and followed about 150.. and then got really bored and just quit.

But in a nutshell, the beauty of twitter is in its 'dumb easy' aspect of it and the fact that it actually doesnt even want you to hang out at its website. It instead aims to piggyback on whatever it is you happen to be doing, like make its tweeting so painlessly easy to do that you can do it while youre eating breakfast, or watching a woman get hit by a car lmao.

Basically twitter is pointless if you ask me but i can see why or how it might appeal to others. Particularly those that use the online medium in a very casual manner.

I think citricsquid or someone mentioned, but twitter wants to 'own' the social networking landscape, much the way youtube/google now owns the viral video landscape.

The web is always changing and the trend is to not force people to be bound to a single website but rather make your offerings as versatile and user friendly as possible and available to a wide variety of platforms, i-phones, blackberry, mobile, laptop, xbox live etc.

As much as I don't like it, I think the OPs analysis is entirely off. It only seems to be doing better all the time. It gets tons and tons of free publicity, and apart from their minimal use of bandwidth (140 characters max, times 8 bits per character... each tweet is essentially a max of about 1k.) they have very little overhead.

I was on that site for like 2 days. Its pretty shitty i dont get why the media loves it so much.
