Who else here loves Rube Goldberg devices? If you don't know what they are look here.

In general, a Rube Goldberg machine is an overly complicated device created to do a simple task. They were invented by Rube Goldberg, whom stated "when people are given the easy way and the hard way to do something, they always want to do the hard way."

Examples include the trap from MouseTrap, a car commerical that is titled "Cog", and some of the things done in Garry's Mod. Just search the internet for a few minutes, and you'll find some of the most amazing Rube Goldberg machines. I'm telling you, those videos will amuse you, no matter how mature you think you are.

By the way, this is Cog.

The first little cog you see is CGI, but the rest is real. It took them exactly 500 tries before it worked.

That commercial was obviously animated. The way that the tires climbed up the teeter-totter was completely unrealistic. It was a cool commercial though =P

Due to the compressed air in the tires, they would move that way. Only the first cog you see was animated. The rest is real. Even then, I've seen much more fantastical machines than that.

This one is another example.

I love Rube Goldberg devices. The one from Back to the Future has to be my favorite.

Rube Goldberg devices aren't about money. They're about the spectacle.

MythBusters did one and it was excellent. I've loved those things since I was a kid, and I used to make them myself.

With those things it's like we're going back in time. But anyway, I think the things that impress and amuse us is how complex and hard it is to make.

I love them as well. There was an asian* show made up of really elaborate ones.

This is a japanese one

*I say asian because I didn't speak the language.

For my next trick, I will need a condom and a volunteer.

To be honest, I created a Rube Goldberg device when I was a kid. The thing is it took five minutes to make cereal.
