This crew is for people who are fans of the truly awesome punk rock/melodic hardcore band, Rise Against! Formed in 1999, they have 4 albums, their latest being Appeal to Reason, and have 4 members. Their vocalst is Tim McIlrath, their guitarist is Zach Blair, their bassist is Joe Principe, and their drummer is Brandon Barnes.

From Wikipedia: Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1999. Their current lineup consists of Tim McIlrath (vocals, guitar), Joe Principe (bass guitar), Brandon Barnes (drums), and Zach Blair (guitar), all of whom are straight edge (excluding Barnes) PETA supporters and strict vegetarians. The band is currently signed to Geffen, a record label owned by Universal Music Group. As of 2009, Rise Against has released five studio albums, two EPs, and one DVD.

Rise Against spent its first five years signed to the independent record label Fat Wreck Chords, on which it released two studio albums. The band gained mainstream popularity with its first two releases on Geffen, Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004) and The Sufferer & the Witness (2006), which produced several high-charting singles, including "Swing Life Away", "Prayer of the Refugee", and "The Good Left Undone". Their most recent studio album, Appeal to Reason, was released in North America on October 7, 2008, peaking at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 and producing the singles, "Re-Education (Through Labor)", "Audience of One", and "Savior" .

And if you were wondering why I picked the sleeping faic as the thread icon, it's because it's an accurate representation if Tim while he's singing.

Rise Against is my favorite band. Thank you for making this crew.

I like their old stuff, but i think their new stuff, though good, was a bit of a sell out.

Two of my friends invited me to go to one of their shows on July 16th. But it's $30 so I don't think I'll go.

Is it REALLY worth it

Welcome, everyone who just joined! Zero-gravity, can you clarify what you mean by their recent work being a "sell-out"? Do you mean they changed their music for the purpose of selling more albums? Because I don't really see much of a difference between albums like Revolutions per Minute and Appeal to Reason, other than the latter being more energetic.

Also, I just got The Sufferer and the Witness, which is IMO their best piece of work, but not their best album, if you know what I'm saying.

It is. The music rocks, and the live performances are fantastic. $30 is a fuckin steal man.

I know. I found some $30 tickets for shows in Philly and New York, both of which are about an hour away from me, but I still don't know if I'll go. I have to talk my parents into getting me the tickets, as I'm completely broke, and I don't know if Rancid or Rise Against is headlining.

Im just saying that they have a lot more of a mainstream sound than they did before simply for the purpose of having a broader audience. The former albums had a much more hard rock sound, the newer albums have a much more punk rock sound to them. To me this just seems....... sellout-ish.

Not there biggest fan, But a fan still. So I may as well join here (:

Who here has Last.Fm accounts? And as for the whole selling out discussion, I completely disagree. I mean firstly, There new music sounds great, better than the older stuff even. That's not selling out, that's called progression.

Secondly, All bands are going to change slightly over time, and over fame. Its called life. Were you the same as now 10 years ago? Would you be the same if you had 2000000 more friends? Same with them guys, minor changes are going to take place, period.
