In my eyes, System has some pretty fucking stupid lyrics.
But whatever.
Nirvana will always have the best lyrics in my opinion, lyrics that can change my life.

Ugh, Hero of War is a terrible song. Some of the songs from RPM or The Unraveling had pretty decent lyrics, but the new stuff is all a bit samey...

Oh, they definitely have some silly lyrics, no question, but they mean a lot. Nirvana also has some amazing lyrics, definitely.

Bob Dylan is my favorite lyricist of all time. So many of his songs seem like they go perfectly with a situation I've gone through. Some of his songs are just plain cool sounding. Some are just stories that are funny, sweet, and amazing.

Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon,
Where I can watch her waltz for free
'Neath her Panamanian moon.
An' I say, "Aw come on now,
You must know about my debutante."
An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
The kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss,
And you wouldn't know it would happen like this,
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?
With your childhood flames on your midnight rug,
And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs,
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs,
Who among them do you think could resist you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

Mr. Tambourine Man
Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.

Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
Proves to warn
That he not busy being born
Is busy dying.

Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover
That you'd just be
One more person crying.

Go listen to him.

Sig by fahrenheit.

Dragonforce lyrics are like a really, really bad fantasy novel. You know your band sucks when the only reason anybody has heard of you is because you had one song on Guitar Hero 3. Ooh badass!
And just when you thought that lyrics couldn't get any worse along comes Coheed and Cambria. Motherfuckers...

As for my 2 cents, I think Tool are probably my favorite band lyrically, as well as being one of my favorite bands period. The lyrics can seem really weird or mundane at first but when you look the meanings a bit more they can be very deep and thought provoking. I spent $60 on the Lateralus vinyl on the weekend, despite already having two copies of the CD. That's gotta say something!

Gorillaz. All their songs tie together in a storyline, which is so awesome it could please Chuck Norris's ears.

Without a doubt Michael Jackson or Prince, every single song means something.

So, bands that use metaphors and turned phrases don't make sense? Just because they're not being straightforward doesn't mean they're not making sense.

couldnt agree more. and im definitely not gonna be some deathmetal head who thinks a band is lyrically the best cuz the talk about sex and murder in one song...... that is completely stupid. give some evidence of actual talent. for lyrics it is the yardbirds.
Shapes of things before my eyes,
Just teach me to despise.
Will time make men more wise?
Here within my lonely frame,
My eyes just hurt my brain.
But will it seem the same?

Come tomorrow, will I be older?
Come tomorrow, may be a soldier.
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?

Now the trees are almost green.
But will they still be seen?
When time and tide have been.
Fall into your passing hands.
Please don't destroy these lands.
Don't make them desert sands.

Chorus, Lead.

Soon I hope that I will find,
Thoughts deep within my mind.
That won't disgrace my kind.

for actual voice im gonna go with mikael akerfeldt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyclCpvty _I
hes got the best growl ive ever heard. most other bands just growl so bad it almost sounds instrumental, i cant understand a word of that. but mikael can go from super growling to super soft mellow so fast.

I concur with the Prince thing, the lyrics at the start of When Doves Cry are sheer gold.

So they made me their chief...which was nice.

Using internet meme's to defend yourself makes you look like an idiot, the only song that made slight meaning is B.Y.O.B. which to be honest, is one of their weakest sounding songs so it's pretty redundant.

I'm not saying all bands from now don't mean anything, but SOAD are definitely one of them, using them as an example is just stupid. I'm not even a fanboy or anything, one of my favourite bands are Metallica and I think most of their songs just sound stupid lyric wise.
