Ive been hearing a lot of Michael Jackson's songs recently due to his death on the radio, T.v. and other places.

So i was thinking if people would consider doing a contest based around remixing Michael Jackson's songs.

I'm not sure how this would work, or who would manage it, but i though it was a cool idea.

So i guess, you guys can tell me what you think, if its a good idea, any problems, or anything related to this.

Thanks!

Excuse me for possibly sounding arrogant, but if MAC's still go on, that would be a great MAC to have about now.

Welp... let's try looking at all the main factors...

-Since Newgrounds has been a little tame on the contest front, a lot of unofficial ones have popped up. As much as I'd like to join all of them, my workflow just won't permit it. I'm sure a few others are like that. When it comes down to the audio forum regs, a few is actually a lot. As great of an idea as it is, I'm sure most of us are bogged.

-Overkill. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Everyone is/was already talking about MJ's death. There are plenty of sources for everything MJ related. I've already talked to my entire family about it. As appropriate as it would normally be for the death of a musician to be discussed in an audio forum, it's already been brought up everywhere else. That makes anything we could say in here spam. Unless someone wants to talk about the chord structure to a said song in here but that takes away from the competitive nature of a contest in the first place.

-How do you expect us to get the a cappella? As good as some of us might be at mixing, I really doubt anyone wants to take the time to try and manually extract the vocals from a mix for other people. It takes time, it takes skill and it takes genuine selfless effort... unless you know of a place that's selling the a cappella. In which case I have only to ask where the selflessness is...

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea but those three factors make it all seem unlikely.

Well in light of everything you just said....Nvm.

Ur right, the main problem is definitely the acapellas so i guess its off.

None of my ideas ever come through :(

Well, I found the acapella for Beat It.

I'm sure the acapellas for the rest of his songs are out there somewhere, you just have to search a little. If you decide to go through with this contest in the end, I'm definitely gonna give it a shot :D

That's actually kind of terrible quality if you ask me. Granted, I don't do much in the way of 'remixing' but there's volume issues and it comes with its very own reverb. Oh boy.

This doesn't address the issue that using such a file is generally in violation of the AP's standards, as it's not something you produced yourself nor is it something released under a creative commons license.

Completely forgot about rule # 1. All that thought and I completely missed the obvious. If you would excuse me now, I'm gonna go learn how to breath. I was sick that day in grade school when they taught us that.
