So that's why I think that it's people's fault to feel scared. If someone feels scared, then read the rules, and learn what you can/can't do. Then you'll see that there's nothing to be scared of.

I actually want have a little bit of a nitpick at that first part. It doesn't apply to everyone, but it's a way of looking at things that does stay true to how some people see figures that are higher than them, erm, socially. I would personally only want to PM a mod as a last resort, to clear up something that was actually bothering me. The last time I did something like that was in 2007, and it's not really that hard to work out what it was I was messaging the mod about. I have a bit of a thing about PMing mods, as much as I encourage newer users to do it if they're confused. Again, it's a personal thing, but some people might feel the same way as I do. A softy I am, indeed.

I prefer to see how things work out in practice on the forums, at least most of the time. I realise that the rules are important if you just want to enjoy your time here like you should, but I think looking around and learning about the place is important too. I think regulars should steadily drop the typical attitude when seeing a post by a new user, a post that is perfectly fine and discussing a perfectly acceptable topic. In an extreme case, I think it would be better for some regulars and mods to be less "hilarious" and "badass" when it comes to new users. Again, I'm not suggesting you let all new users get away with murder, but I'm saying that we're intelligent enough not to be overly hateful with them. Maybe I'm being a little optimistic... users that blatantly break the rules should be banned for it, but a lot of people aren't that bad. Eh, I'm just this little inexperienced kid I suppose.

but if you just want to be a troll and take away from the NG experience, go ahead and be over at Twilight's little fan club that's NSFW.
if you know what I mean.

It doesn't really help either "side" to go into some sort of conflict over the BBS. I like to think most people can talk to each other as they wish, without random arguments spurting from nowhere. I agree that mods and regulars should be listened to if you want to understand the technicalities of the BBS (in that what's acceptable and what's not, etc.), but you need to be interacting with everyone and simply having fun if you want the full "NG experience" (at least, the experience that goes with the BBS). While I believe you're trying to be funny by saying we should... ahem, vote for you, I don't think you're helping what the problem, whatever that might be. Hmm.

With your attitude you are never going to get anywhere on this site man. Bashing other users because of username doesn't exactly make the sun shine out of your ass.

viridis, sorry for the doubble post, but I'm not saying that I'm the best to be a mod, I haven't even met most of the others that want to be a mod, how would I even begin to think I'm better? I don't, I just would like to be a mod. and I know you don't vote for it, it's just an expression, so, the main reason I want to be a mod is to get some fucking respect. nobody ever cares what the fuck i do. try having your dad die a month befor your only brother goes off to the national guard. it sucks. and If i really would be that horrible of a mod, I won't try to be one then. so, are you fucking happy now? the only reason I don't like twilight is because I think it sucks. it's becoming a fricking cult around where I live. I got smacked by a pile of books for saying it sucked, then whoever hit me called me a non believer. So you're saying you're more of a lurker. That's OK, lurking the forums before posting is something that every new person should do, and there's even a rule that says "lurk first, post second". A good think to do is to lurk the forum and read the threads even if you know that you won't post on them. That way you'll be able to see how things work and get used to it. If you see "User A" gets banned after posting something, then you'll learn that you shouldn't post that. And it also works the other way around, you'll learn that something is good if you see someone getting praised after doing it. It's common sense, actually.

And I agree with you, sometimes mod shouldn't try to be "funny" or "badass". In the end it seems to be a competition to see who's the most funny or who's tougher, and that's why I said that mods could be a bit intimidating. Again that's why lurking is important. You'll see some mods doing this constantly and then you'll learn that's more of a "joke" (which, by the way, stopped being funny a while ago.

Post intelligently, pursue conversation and spark interest into other users and you will eventually be recognised and respected. Respect can't be bought with a Gold Aura. It has to be earned. No one on Newgrounds knows who the hell I am, but I keep posting in the hopes that someone takes something from what I said. Any time someone quotes my posts for conversational purposes it puts a smile on my face and reminds me why I post on this damn forum.

try having your dad die a month befor your only brother goes off to the national guard. it sucks. and If i really would be that horrible of a mod, I won't try to be one then. so, are you fucking happy now?

Don't try to be a Mod. Try to be a good user. A Mod is a good user so you should aspire to be that, not a Mod. There are great posters on the BBS that I like and respect more than some of the mods simply because of their attitude to posting and to other users. Off the top of my head I'd have to say I respect Gagsy, STEM and CapnCrunchDaPimp. If I see threads made by these users I'll automatically jump right in.

the only reason I don't like twilight is because I think it sucks. it's becoming a fricking cult around where I live. You can't slam a user's name because it coincides with a specific dislike you might have; that's just outta line. Twilight is a fucking horrible flick but I keep my opinion of the film to myself, i'll say that I don't like it, but I can tell why others might. You aren't trying to defend anyone mate, you are trying to have authority; which you don't have on Newgrounds.

Stop trying and just post like a user. Not a wannabe Mod.

You weren't talking to me, but I'm not angry at you. You might just want to place some arguments in better places for the future. You've only been here a short period of time, if this is your first account of course, and you might still meet lots of decent people around Newgrounds that you can joke around with and have fun with. Try not to think about being a mod, as prevalent a theme it is in the forums, and just do things the way you like while abiding to the rules. Quoting NEVR from here :

"It's okay to want to become a moderator, sure, either you want the power or you want to simply help out. In either case, it's pretty pathetic when you try hard and put a lot of time in trying to become a moderator. If you find yourself doing it, you most surely shouldn't be a moderator.

I think that's an easy enough way to look at it. On top of that, ignore users if they annoy you. You might end up posting something horrendously stupid, and not many people want that... unless it's been a pretty slow day BBS phenomena-wise.

Definitely. I don't really have much more to say on your post unfortunately, but I do see what you mean there very much so. It's definitely more about "intimidation" than being "scared", largely for the reasons you hinted at. It's not my place at all to go any further than that, but some might see what I mean either way.

What the hell, I just didn't get what you just said lol

Wait until you see the inside of the Serious Shop. It's so serious, it makes the most serious mind of the most serious man go blind with such a serious rage, where he tries to be as serious as possible... while, erm, coping with his sudden blindness.

Noone is hating on you, especially not me. I was simply trying to advise you to post with a bit more thought rather than gunning to your goal of being a Mod. Get more of a feel for the site first.
As long as you beg for attention like this noone will ever notice or appreciate anything you have to say. I know it's tough being a new user where noone cares what you have to say "simple because you're new, but it's a phase you have to break through just like anyone else.

Sorry Mods for the giant off-topic posts recently that I have made. Don't ban me :3

If a user is quite obviously new and is posting horribly than after the initial lock/ban the Mod should PM the user if he has time. This would help sort out any misconceptions of the Mods being unforgiving dictators who ban for every toe out of place. That's not what happens. I should know, I post like a retard.

Also Cocks.

The best way to become a mod is to never ask. It happens on it's own and not very often because the need for mods isn't a huge issue. Not to mention that only regular users will be noticed. Let's face it, you're a '09 user with almost 250 posts and have been here for a grand total of six days. I don't want to sound rude, but don't hold your breath on becoming a mod. Maybe if you keep posting at the rate you are for, I don't know, three more years, then maybe you might be picked. None of this matters if you keep posting anything near "make ne a mod plzzz" though. The only thing you will get out of that is making yourself look like a douche.

That doesn't mean anything, granted that a huge ban history would keep someone from being picked for mod, a lack of one for a guy that's been here for six days doesn't mean jack.

Mods don't scare me. Simply write quality posts that have some degree of substance to them, and the mods don't ban you. Now granted, there have been times that I have been banned for almost no reason at all. But as long as you're not a smart ass, and don't try to backseat mod, then you shouldn't really fear the ban hammer all that much.

chances are a mod will ban me for this.

To be fair, a lot of the threads are deleted, so you might not see as many as we do. There's a reason the rule exists. And I mean honestly, most threads include a person saying they are new, someone saying something nice, someone saying something elitist, someone saying something backseat moddy, and so on. The new threads don't really work.

And a lot of users that seem innocent enough end up being alt accounts.

Is it so hard to not have a "Welcome To NG" template picture to post when these topics come up for easy locking with directions on what the new user should do? Be better then about 5 users just linking a new guy to the faqs and/or rules before a lock floats in.

I get that, completely. If the user is geniuenely just trying to introduce themselves, they shouldn't be chastized, and the mod team shouldn't be contributing to that, 'but' sometimes the urge to be humourous trumps the responsibility to be courteous, especially when the user just reeks of poor intentions.

Yeah I know.

I'm not even new but one scared me the other day, made me think bbs was too limited.

I had posted a forum topic titled "Favorite Metal/Rock Band?", and that was an okay topic, but it was locked.

So I was like what the fuck when I saw a forum that was titled "I feel so stupid" and read "I always lose on NG games and makes me feel stupid"

I was just like wtf and posted uhh... thread lock plx?

The topic wasn't locked and I was banned for 3 days from the NG BBS for "Backseat Modding".

Pissed me off.

I don't fucking believe it.

Thats 'cuz the mods didn't do it for a reason.

I was just like wtf and posted uhh... thread lock plx?

The topic wasn't locked and I was banned for 3 days from the NG BBS for "Backseat Modding".

Pissed me off.

You're not supposed to complain or boast about bans

And if you think a thread should be locked. P.M. a mod and ask them politely to look into it and link them to the offending thread.

Posting in a thread that it should be locked is backseat modding.

I've got grenades... that BLIND people.
