I've been to Japan and for any people who want to go, you better know Japanese or be a part of an English-speaking program when you visit, because otherwise your trip is not going to be nearly as fun as it could be. Navigating Tokyo without a word of Japanese in you = painful.

As for me, I'd like to visit England. Maybe if I plan well enough I can do some study-abroad there for college at a place like Oxford or Cambridge. It seems like a cool place to visit as I've never been to Europe, and I wouldn't have to worry about a language barrier either ;)

Of course, Spain or a Latin American country would be better for practicing my Spanish, but (and this is going to sound wildly ignorant) the culture of those countries has never really interested me :/

Cock. That throws me back a year or so. >:(
Unless I make friends with a Japanese speaker I'm totally boned.
Do you think a few phrase-books would suffice?

Knowing how to say "Where is XXXX station" when navigating the subway, bus, or train would be supremely helpful, since those are going to be your main modes of transportation. As long as you can get around without getting lost, you should be ok (which is easier said than done; I got lost a zillion times).

The other problem is food, as unless you plan on living on KFC, McDonalds, Denny's and whatever you can buy from 7-11, reading menus and ordering food at Japanese restaurants will probably be tough, especially if you're a picky eater.

If you can get around, eat, and have a place to sleep (ideally a youth hostel, which will be cheap and will have English speaking people your age staying there), YOU WILL SURVIVE!!!

Phrase books tend to have that. I once found a spanish phrase book that had sexual phrases and pick up lines in it. Some of them were so ridiculous I was crying with laughter!

I'm not too picky, I'd probably end up going into a restaurant and pointing at something and going "WANT".

Awesome sauce. Thanks for the advice dude.

I have family in China (Shanghai), probably would be cool to visit there. Also, Canada, Italy, Argentina (a few relatives there, too), Mexico, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and many, many more.

I would visit the Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico.

I have a love for Aztec and Mayan architecture and culture and am currently saving up money to go to the Mayan city in 2012. I chose 2012 to symbolize the end of the Mayan long count calendar rather than go before "doomsday".

I'd visit the U.K., Australia, Brazil, and, of course, Canada. I would also visit Germany and Italy. Maybe France, but I don't know.

Also, fuck Mexico. It's ugly.

Well I've really only visited Spain and Spanish islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife), though I do like Spain.. very relaxed, hot, and very beautiful cities, plus a great party scene. I really want to travel Europe. I'm from England so I know Europe isn't exactly that far away but America doesn't really interest me - I have been to Florida and it was great, I'd like to see New York but other than that I don't really care. Anyway, Italy is one of the countries I intend to visit soon.. especially Rome, I'm very interested in the religious background of the place (as an atheist this may be a tad unusual).

yeah, the whole japanese fad is getting a little old i think, but dont worry, if youre white, go to japan, and try and speak it, and watch them laugh at you even when you get it right, or laugh behind your backs, they think the obsession is cute too.

the only place ive been outside the U.S was Qeuebec, Canada. same deal there, if ya didnt know french, they knew english, but only enough to confuse you. they also seemed to get left and right confused, as do i in french, i dont even remember what it is [Druits?]

anyways, if i could go anywhere, germany, norway, ireland, iceland.

England is not representative of Europe. There are all kinds of different places, cultures, languages and traditions around Europe, which you won't find in England. So it's understandable why he would want to travel around Europe.
