Alright, so we have our art portal, so logically what would probably come next if anything would be a Literature portal or Literature forum. I'm not sure if either one is being planned or anything since I don't really read news posts or shit like that, so I'm asking this basically as a matter of opinion.

If we are going to have one or the other, which do you think would be better? For one, consider the pros and cons of both. A portal would obviously make it easier to update stories, but naturally events like the monthly writing competitions would be harder to organise and participate, but a forum would make it, in turn, harder to update with the clutter of posts in between updates and easier for competitions to happen.

But there's also the question of prominence; a lit forum would make it pretty much exclusive to the people who already write on the bbs and wouldn't garner many new users or talent, whereas a portal would obviously be in the header and attract atleast some semblance of attention.

So, knowing these things, which do you think would be more successful or that should be implemented, if at all? Also feel free to elaborate on what I have said or disprove it in any way.

I fucking hate Lars Ulrich.

They're planning to make a lit portal, so I'm guessing that Tom and the gang have already decided that it is the way forward, rather than a forum.

I'll make you a sig. Pm me or visit this thread.

More people would offer constructive criticism rather than rating 0.

We have a flash forum and portal, an audio forum and portal, and an art forum and portal.
As trends suggest...

Yes, but flash audio and art all have applications that use a variety of discussable techniques which can create a lengthy discussion, whereas a literature portal would pretty much entirely encompass the uses of a forum and vice versa, making it both needless and it would altogether make alot of effort for something that could easily be brushed off as pointless.

The Lit portal should be a welcome addition to all the budding authors out there. I for one, will enjoy reading through the stuff on the Lit portal.

The reason for not having a Lit sub-forum is most likely the huge amounts of spam that bored retards would fill it with.

Portal would work best, but it'd be like a forum so...hm. I don't mid either way; I'm just curious how they're handling multichapter pieces.

My guess would be that the forum is used for posting unfinished works. Getting advice on whether to continue, asking for help when you've hit the old writers block etc. Whereas the portal would be used for finished works, allowing users to review your peice, favorite it, etc.

Both. If there's a portal, there's a forum. Not vice-versa though...

I'd like to see a portal, your stories could be shown on your userpage, and, people can actually rate them instead of saying "Cool story, bro."

Interesting stuff.

A literature portal would be useless and full of crap.

I've been saying for years that a Literature Forum was needed though, since we can't post story threads in the general anymore.

So yeah, a Forum would be good. A portal would be useless. Like poxpower said, "It happened exactly 0 times that an flash artist needed someone to write for him"

With a literature portal, they could make it so when you submit something, people can not copy and paste it, post it somewhere else, call it their own.
If we use literature forums, somebody can just copy paste it, post it anywhere they want, and steal it so easily.

So if we used a literature portal, and somebody submits a large piece, a person can not just highlight it and post it all over the internets, they would have to type it out themselves, every single word, which they would be way too god damn lazy to do.

That's a good point. Writers tend to be quite cautious with their work.

Unfortunatley, that is impossible.

I don't see a literature section as working very well in either sense. Judging by the NG community it will be filled with obscene jokes... So it will be like a flash on here but without the real effort...

I say a portal because then they can implement code to prevent copyright and put in other necessary features for a writing community.

Interested? Probably not. It's okay, I wouldn't be either. Just PM me
