Flash Game Music

OK here is a game iv'e had aaages and i've decided im bored so i'll stick on Newgrounds later today, i don't expect it to get sponsorship.

Now i need some decent backgound music; i took off what i had before because it was crap. I was just wondering 2 things:

1) Am i right or wrong in thinking that it's not illegal for me to use up to 30 seconds of a copyrighted h(and therefore decent) song.

2) Can anyone suggest music for it? Weather your own work, or if 1) is correct, a decent copyrighted one.

It's illegal to use copyrighted music. Even if one second of it. The music in the audio portal however is free and not copyrighted.

While it is illegal to use such music, you can get away with it if it's a small time project and non profit.

Theres a similar one to do with hobbits, but this game started out (when i was a noob) as a copy of Eskiv

It is copyrighted. It's just under a license as that you can use it without permission in a flash without permission but if you're making profit from it, whether it be from sponsorship or ad revenue, you have to get the permission of the author, could be that they say you can use it for free or that they want x% or $y.

Thanks i'll add you, iv'e found an ok song for the main bit but maybe something for the menu screen would be nice.
