Officer. The TK40 is a good light. Someone recently torture tested one on candlepowerforums.com. They beat the shit out of it, but it kept on working. It runs off of eight AA's, which is kind of unique. If you get it I woud highly recommend you invest in some rechargable NiMH AA's, like Sanyo Eneloops, or the new pre-charged Duracell NiMH's that have a low self discharge. Using regular alkaline batteries risks leakage and damage to the expensive flashlight.

It's a big light. it is bright, and should have fairly long run times.

If you let me know what you would like to use a flashlight for I might have other recommendations.

Probably the most I would do with it is go possum hunting late at night. I live basically in a mini forest just out of the city and there are a hell of a lot of possums. You know, because of a lot of food etc. I have a massive 12" spotlight which is extremely bright and along with that, it is extremely large. I usually go possum hunting with a mate and we will take turns at holding a spotlight. But I do like going out on my own sometimes. I just love being in the pitch black darkness and incredible silence, because I feel truly along. Although I know I would be scared, if I didn't have my shotgun with me :)

But I don't do it on my own a lot, mainly because it is near impossible to lug around a massive spotlight while trying to shoot something. So what I really want is a powerful torch that is lightweight enough that I could strap to my shotgun. It would make it a hell of a lot easier.

So I'm really looking for a torch that is powerful, durable (fairly heavy duty to sustain hard knocks), and is still reasonably lightweight. I'm sure that it's hard to get a heavy duty torch that is still lightweight, but that's exactly what I need.

I have it set to always come on in mode 1, so it always start at the max low. This is nice because if you're in the dark and your eyes are adjusted to the dark you don't want the thing coming on real bright and hurt your eyes, ruin your night adapted eyes, etc. The min output is plenty of light to navigate around a dark room, etc. Two quick taps will bump it to the next mode. So I can double tap for a little more light, double tap for even more. If I need the full output all I have to do is press and hold the button and it will go to full output as long as I hold it down. Once I let go it returns to whatever mode I was previously in, such as max low. If I tap then press and hold I get a random strobe which can be used to disorient someone or get someone's attention, or rave.

There is another mode which lets you dim the light up and down to adjust the amount of light you want. You can also have it blink out the current battery voltage, like 3 blinks followed by 8 blinks would be 3.8v. It has circuitry to prevent rechargeable batteries from being over discharged. You can program a variety of strobes, SOS, and beacons, varying their output and frequency.

I didn't know there were flashlights as advanced as that. Some of the features sound cool and they can come in handy, like having several modes, as you mentioned. But it makes me think if such a complex flashlight is actually fully used. I mean, of course they are used, but do people really use and take advantage of all of its features?

I've always thought a flashlight is such a simple object, I wouldn't need so many modes and stuff like that as long as it can light a room when the power goes off. But anyway I'm not into flashlights and I rarely use them, but do you consider all of these features necessary? I would just think that most of them are there to "show off".

There are some things that could be better, but it's hard to find one flashlight that is perfect in every way, but so far this comes the closest for what I want. Everyone has their own preferences like anything else.

What would you consider to be a perfect flashlight? You already said what you look for (size, features and UI), but which is the perfect combination? Also, how much would you be willing to pay for a good flashlight?

Sorry for so many questions, but it's what came to my mind after reading your posts :/

Officer, you want this:

http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?
cPath=114&products_id=1484

It has a 1 inch body tube so it will fit standard gun mounts. You would then want to invest in a pair of 18650 batteries and a charger. These are lithium ion cells. I would recommend getting them from here:

Great bit there Wade, in response to what you told me in regard to my previous question.

I'm in the range of looking for a light that not only has a wide range for illumination, but also, has a bit more range to it than the other lights I've used to achieve the 'area of effect' of brightness. Basically, I've tried the more traditional lights most have in case of a power outage, they fail horribly at illuminating a wide area, and I've also tried strip lighting techniques, which use multiple bulbs to illuminate a large area, but only provide range, with short width, or width with a short range.

Main reason I'm looking for this is some friends and I have gotten back into 'exploring' creepy areas, which lack street lights majority of the time, and leave us in the pitch black, with no real way of seeing a large area at once, to the depth we'd like to see anyways.

Going during the day isn't an option, it's more of a 'investigate supposed sightings of ghosts, etc' type of thing.

Anyways, any help on this would be appreciated, and to those wondering, this light would be used more in terms of downright creepy shit happening, when we'd need to see around us.. we don't mind being in the dark, but when shit seems to be going crazy all around you, it's nice to know your surroundings. :)

Blatant join.

Wade is indeed fairly powerful, as we should all know just from looking at that glorious goatee of his -- I heard that it melts the knees of spammers and shoots poison barbs at their eyeballs.

Also I saw a guy on holiday who looked exactly like Wade, except he was a Spanish security guard... so he wasn't NEARLY as powerful as the real Wade.

I've also heard that they will eventually make a Castle Crashing game based around that. Castle Crashing the Goatee.

Do not rule it out, I can see the all powerful Wade working as a Security Guard, as long as he gets to bring his LF3XT flashlight on duty. The taco he ate, might have given him a diminished look in power, but I assure you, Pablo shit his pants when he saw Wade on duty.

It would be impossible to win. The only realistic objective of the game would be to stay alive for more than 5 seconds.

Spray on tan and a cuban 'stache, of course! Why was he undercover as a security guard, is he hiding something? Perhaps there is another club than this, and Wade was disguising himself to join the Mexican Wade Fanclub.

I almost am required to join this club. It's a sad sad story, but I will try to keep out the terrifying parts for those weaker souls. I joined the site in 2004. I had dial up and never read any of the rules and hated the forums back in the day as you can see from my one and only post in 2004.

Because of not reading the rules or being familiar with the site I just kind of reviewed abusively and stupidly for the longest of times. I left the site for awhile and came back, reviewing in the same exact matter. It wasn't long that I was permabanned by Kidray for abusive reviews.

After awhile I PM'd Wade about it and he called me a dumbass. I took the words with honor and never gave up. He shortly lifted my ban a week later when I asked him on Paltalk and I've been a big fan of him ever since.

He might not know who I am on AIM, but last week I messaged him the submission that was attempting to steal RCP and he deleted it. Great team work and I don't really think he even knew who I was, but it was fine with me.

Perhaps lifting my audio ban would be great sometime too Wade. :P I wouldn't mind submitting some voice acting things here someday.

Welcome to the crew, fellow cult member. Though you were banned by one of Wade's army of moderators (no offense NEVR) it has, in the long run, made you a strong reviewer, something that without the help of our Almighty and moderators, would not have been achievable.

You may not know this, but I too, was banned, and I seeked the help of Wade. I submitted crap to the portal, which I foolishly considered "hard work", spending 3 days on it. It was blammed, and I accidentally uploaded the same exact flash, rather than another submission in which I worked hard on. Needless to say, I was banned for thirty days more. I called upon Wade to help fix this, and he responded with the noble words,

"It's an automated system. If you have to many entries blammed to close together you get a ban. This is to encourage people to spend more time on their Flash and not to spam the portal with crap. If your entry got blammed our system checks to see if you had any other recent blams, whih you did, so you were banned again. You may have made a mistake uploading the wrong file, but the system doesn't know that."

Realizing the way of my errors, I sought to make better flash and to become an artist. To this day, I've managed it because of him.

and a new studio, but mostly him.

I had a look at that torch and it seemed to be fine. The only problem is I wouldn't think it to have a very wide beam. However I may be wrong, looking at its power rating it may be handy after all. I also said holy shit when I read it lasted 2.5 hours at maximum power.

I'll have another look at it later, but I am definately considering purchasing it. Thanks for you help.

In a sense, I can see where you are coming from, but a photoshop could potentially be art portal material. In your winning photoshop, it is true that you used a real image (the gatlight) but you turned it into a work of art digitally, using various images to achieve your IronHide Transformer and sealing the deal on the winning flashlight. It, in no way, looks like a photograph. If it did, I would sh*t myself if I ever had to go to Tokyo.

Not only is it an excellent example of creativity, but it would go beside Darth Vulgar so nicely. I'm sure if you talked it over with the admins that helped create the art portal they would agree that this would be considered not a photo, and an excellent addiction to digital art.

below is Wade's masterpiece that has won him his prized Gatlight. Read all about it in his newspost!
