Well I wont claim to be the high and mighty movie critic, but I do work at a movie theatre and I've taken acting/film classes.
I enjoyed the movie.
I loved the battle scenes. I don't know who the hell thought that they weren't memorable, but the forest scene kicked ass, and all the others were great too.
While I agree the plot wasn't the most original and intriguing thing I've seen in the past year, I would say that it wasn't bad. It made sense, there was a constant flow, and the movie never really diverged from it. One thing I know many people are upset about, myself included, is that the other transformers didn't get as much screen time and maybe said three lines at best. That was pretty disappointing. But you have to understand that from a film/story standpoint, the creator has to make characters that the audience can relate too, in this case, the humans. Hence they get more screen time, in order for the audience to connect and feel engaged, they have to develop these characters. Although in the case of T2, they still could have given the bots more lines.
Here's one thing that is either a love or hate issue. The humor. Understand that the movie is trying to appease with all audiences (to many imo). The humor was to be a relief for the story. In MY opinion, I could have done without the twins, without the dogs, and without the stupid humping robot. I don't think they should have taken out the S7 agent, cause even though he's meant as a comic relief, that's a still a personality and character trait, as apposed to a forced joke. I would have liked to see the movie in a more serious light.
But here's the thing. I go into movies with ZERO expectations. I did however expect some good action, but it delivered. You can't expect everything to go your way, because you aren't the one making the film.
All in all. I liked the movie. I would say two thumbs up because I felt that it was entertaining and that I would see it again.
