I never use 'lol' unless I find it REALLY funny. In that case, I put it in all caps (LOL) and explain why it is funny.

Since only like 20 of my BBS posts have LOL in them, when I use LOL, I am REALLY laughing.

Anyway, people used it so often that it's a habit now. They type what they want to say and throw 'lol' at it because of habit.

I never liked 'lol' anyway. I prefer to spell it out or use WORDS to express feelings. lol has no meaning anyway.

Its evolution of language, "lol" in some cases may actually mean laughing out loud, but it can be interpreted as a response to something amusing. I feel it is a bit overused sometimes though.

Next time someone tells you to "Leave room for the holy spirit.." ask them if they are implying you have a threesome.
