Ok, so I think most people here realize that rarely ever is the best music on newgrounds actually be heard or seen by the majority of its users.

This is due to the vast wealth of techno/video game loop teens that decide to zero bomb all other genres of music almost on a daily basis. Even musicians within other genres zero bomb other artists so that their own music can reach the top.

So instead of just making better music, they are enticed to just rate everyone else zero because they are often rewarded heavily for their negative efforts.

This system is utter garbage, and needs to be fixed. This is why I started this thread...to fix this. Every month newgrounds loses good audio artists because the better their music is, the more it just gets bombed and unnoticed most of the time. Though I have been lucky enough to see a fanbase starting to build, this isn't the case for most on the site.

Here's my proposition, I'd like to hear more from everyone though.

It's kinda like the art portal is now, but with more people that have voting power for specific genres of music. Not voting for the score everyone sees, but voting for what gets displayed on the front hub of the audio section.

Any other ideas? I mean, this really needs to be fixed. I love the way Newgrounds is set up for music, but the voting system is just too destructive and not positive at all. What I feel is my best song released yet is my worst rated song. This doesn't make any sense at all.

I hope I'm not the only one that feels this way. I could give a shit about ratings really, but they rely on people's ability to hear my music on here unfortunately.

Ready for a change?

If people are wondering where my music is, I'm posting this from a different account, out of fear that my music will be rated a big fat ZERO from people that may think it's funny to do that to someone complaining about it.

The system is not flawed, the users are. Everyone should be able to rate the music they want to rate, why should they be limited to certain genres? They shouldn't.

It's true. Hence why I only have 1 track up. Yesterday my track has a 4.43 and today it had a 4.34 and it goes down .01 with each 0 so yeah zero bombers are increasing

LOL. People are flawed, if you give them a chance to game the system they will. This system thrives on being gamed.

I didn't say people could only vote on certain genres. I said that there would be admins tending to specific genres that choose which songs go on the front page hub for the audio portal. This way users will have less incentive to zero everyone's stuff to get on the front page regardless of the actual quality of music.

The other day, I had a song at 4.51 in the top spots on the page, by the end of the day it was at 4.27 and berried hundreds of pages back because talentless users with high level accounts zeroing me to get my music as far away from their crap as possible, thus eliminating the competition/perceived threat. It's really annoying, and will be the reason I too leave this site along with the many decent artists that already have.

Did you ever think that maybe your audio wasn't zero-bombed, but judged accordingly? I mean, think about it. Your audio had a 4.51 and a top spot on the page. When I stroll over to the AP, that's the kind of stuff I look for: high ranking audio on the first page. The majority of the time, when I listen to that music, I won't be as good as I expected it to be. I won't zero-bomb it, but I'll vote according. If I think it deserves a 2, I'll give it a 2.

I know a lot of people who frequent the AP who do the exact same thing, every day. They'll hang around the higher scoring audio, and listen to that. If they think it deserves a 2, they'll give it a 2. And with enough users voting accordingly like that, it's no surprise that your audio can fall off the front page easily.

Smart idea. Someone complained about 0-bombing and people began downvoting their audio just to be funny or witty. Yeah it's fucked but hey, this is how the BBS runs.

You can somewhat blame the Revenue Sharing program for that. With Revenue Sharing, 0-bombing will increase rapidly so that the artists at the top can get money from ads loaded in their music when people view it.

Every audio artist puts up with that. Let's live with it together.

More 0-bombing than fair voting.

~

The reason why the flash portal scores are fair is because it's EXTREMELY active, so the scores get evened out. However, in the audio portal, nobody goes there (like a small fraction does) and therefore, 0-bombing can be easily seen.

No, it wasn't judged accordingly, I'm sorry, but just no. I actually don't have a big problem myself, because I'm starting to build support from people. The song will get back up on the front page sure, but many times I'll be searching and find something pretty damn awesome, and it'll end up having a low ass score because that artist was a in a "beef" with someone else at the time or the song was just really good and other people were threatened by how much better it is than there own submissions.

It's not a great portal for new artists at all, or good artists even (outside of techno and video game remixes). It's really just for a bunch of interconnected mediocre artists to make themselves feel better about themselves. People really are too stupid to give them control over things like this. The Audio Portal is anarchy, one that people here have lived with for so long that from the inside they can't really see how fucked up it really is.

Ok, I'm done ranting. I guess I'm going to be off Newgrounds in the coming months then. Looks like all the sheep are happy with status quo as it is.

For great justice:

Current Score
4.38 / 5.00 (+ 0.011)

Wasn't my cup of tea, but you obviously put effort into it, and I too dislike 0-bombers.

I'll admit I've downvoted things on say the top 50 flash submissions list to try and keep things I love on it (like back in the days when there were a couple of BEEBO flashes up there... as opposed to down around #1000 or so like they are nowadays. ;_;), but I always downvote with 2-3-4, something close to what something deserves, or maybe 1 score under it. Something should only get a 0 or 1 if it deserved to get a 0 or 1 while it was UJ, IMO. Same goes for audio, even if it doesn't have an UJ period. #;-}>

I won't deny that some people looking at your thread here (had you posted it with your actual main account) might have downvoted your audio just to spite you, but I'd wager more people than that, myself included as you can see in the above reply to denverbroncos... would have voted your stuff up to combat the 0-bombers.

Way to assume everyone is a sheep because no one's raging against the machine quite as hard as you are, and way to give us the benefit of the doubt re: our votes on your stuff. I'd be upvoting it right now, but I can't, since you hid it. :::shrugs:::
