The whole sex verses violence thing

People around north america freak out over a nipple rather than a chopped off head and people in europe are complete pussies and freak out over a drop of stage blood rather than a big gaping vagina.

Both extremes are backwards but it seems like most people in these kinda debates have to pick a side and very rarely think of these strange little things called grey areas.

Why does it always have to boil down to some retarded sex verses violence debate when discussing cultural differences?

You'll find that in most arguments, the "gray" areas don't get a lot of attention. They're not as provocative, they're not as catchy, and they don't garner enough attention. it's easier to fuel a debate with extremes, rather than reasonableness.

Personally, I tend to be in the middle on most things. America's phobia of nudity is retarded, Europe's phobia of violence is almost the same. If parents did their own damn jobs and didn't whine to the government to tell them what was and was not "for kids" it wouldn't be an issue at all.

I actually like this guy's ideas on this subject.
It certainly is a controversial sexist idea & violence is why many women in the world right now have no choice but to wear it. Depending on where they are, they risk beatings, & possibly death for not wearing this restrictive dress.

I never understood why violence is shown rather than sex. It doesn't make any sense that we'd censor something completely natural and allow something completely rare and hideous.

Its normal and accepted to see young kids fight. Its completley wrong to see them have sex! This is basically the same argument that was put forward in that "why is Hentai banned" thread. Kids shouldnt be exposed to sex at a young age!

Why is it permissible for children to watch violence instead of sex merely because they're familiar with it? I'm not advocating that children have sex, but that they are allowed to see it. I'd also like to note that I'm not talking about porn, but the real deal, not exaggerated quickies.

Its actually not supposed to be! But I and probably most people would feel more comfortable with children watching violence than sex. I can only speak for the place I grew up in but the violence that you get day to day here is brutal but part of the culture, its normal. Kids will experience it anyway. Anything that might come as a consequence of them watching it on TV is under shadowed by events that might happen that they might experience or be involved with on the weekend when they go out drinking.

extreme violence / porn - both not culturally acceptable for kids to be watching in this part of the world. You did not say extreme violence when you made your post. But then again when I was a kid I saw one guy crack another guys skull with an iron bar, he actually beat this guys head out of shape. Their would be more chance of me seeing this and say two people shagging in plain view of everyone.

A better example would have been a violent super hero movie with little to no blood verses a funny movie that is just happens to have a few innuendos and some naughty language.

This is something that falls under the grey areas that i was talking about but this sorta thing rarely ever gets any mention in these kinda debates.

I've seen this movie of a pregnant woman that has to kill guys to let her baby grow. At one point she blows up paramedic personnel with an oxygen. It was gruesome.
