Hardest-working support character?

Who do you think is the hardest-working support character in a video game? Here's an example of a support character: Lakilester in Mario Kart. He's always fishing people and cars out of water, lava, and bottomless pits. He also tells you important stuff. "Goin' the wrong way? Thanks for the heads up Lakilester!" He gets my vote.

Anyway, here's a description of a support character:

"Support characters, as oppose to other characters, are motivated in some way towards helping the hero on the quest."

Some more examples:
A guy who sells you stuff when common sense tells him not to. - Yes.
Your spaceship that tells you how much fuel it has. - No.
A semi-sentient computer that tells you where the enemies are in a base. - Yes.
An enemy that blows it's own brains out. - No.

Name another support character who beat the last enemy up for you and hauled you on to the flying dinosaur so you'd be safe?

Depends on what part of the planet you live on. And I can't think of any support characters that can top this guy's.

On a more serious note, the Heroine from Shin Megami Tensei. Seriously, if you're willing to die in a nuclear apocalypse, be reincarnated, and come to the hero's aid when the world's pretty much gone to hell, you deserve your props.

The Fairy's in The Legend of Zelda series.
They tell you the boss weaknesses when you can't figure them out, they help you out in dungeons, they even will follow you into the depths of hell, they also keep you alert with that weird noise they make (people call it annoying, but we listen for it.

And Midna and if you don't know who midna is get a wii and get twilight princess NOW!

I'd say Zero from the Megaman X games.
How Many times does he die? And How many times is he ressurrected?

I'm gonna say Captain Ross from Clive Barker's Jericho, even though he could be considered the main character because you're technically playing the whole game as him.
Basically he dies right at the beginning of the game and then has the ability to possess each of the other characters.
Whether he is the main character or a support depends on how you look at it but he certainly does a hell of a lot of work for a dead guy.

Yeah that's the name in the US, but in most of the rest of the world it's called Another World.

Ashley is more or less a side character. Luis Sera, the Merchant, Ada, and even Hunnigan would count! But Ashley does not.

The Merchant from Resident Evil 4, without a doubt.

No matter how fast Leon manages to get through the island, no matter how many times he gets shot in the head, seemingly dead, the Merchant is always there to provide you with vital F. Aid Sprays and sweet sweet shotgun capacity upgrades.

.... and then Capcom ripped him out of the sequel. Wankers.
