4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsAs time goes by things change. This includes both gains and losses. The purpose of this topic is to talk about things and expereicnes the next generation won't have.
1. The art of video store browsing. This is already well into happening. Finding some movie on demand or on netflix just doesn't count.
True browsing means going out into the world (the main component) and looking through some random ass selection of film history until you find something unexpected to add to your concieness. The selection is also part of the expereince. There's no thrill of the hunt to clicking on someone's well researched filmography. That's not hunting, it's just killing. This princible could be adapted for music.
on that topic 2. The remaining Beatles. Yes you indie fucks, this matters.
3. Anyone with 1st hand experience of ww2. I do not want to get into politics here. Read, do not get into politics here. But this was the last war that people can overall agree on. There was a clear villian, a clear goal and it was achomplished. The world won't be the same without people who've expereinced that.
4. Not being connected. By this I mean phones. Have you ever forgotten your phone one day? You almost feel like you're on a survival show. There's that inherint risk of not being completly covered as such. With phones becoming more previalant and capable the feeling of being off the grid will sadly become a thing of the past.
Can you think of anything?

Yeah. I forgot my phone once and missed an important call informing me I had died. I wasn't aware I was dead until I got home that day and checked my phone.
Damn that day sucked.

TRUE Music.
I want the fucking 80's back.

Since when do people who like indie music dislike The Beatles?

Define 'true music'.

I'm not talking about people who like indie music. I'm talking about indie fucks. The people who cannot talk about anything avialaible to outsiders. As an indie fan I'm sure you've run into these people.

Nah, I've never encountered a single person in my life who has said "I dislike The Beatles."
Also, 'avialaible' is now my favourite misspelling of a word.
"Communism is the very definition of failure." - Liberty Prime.
Children will eventually forget how to entertain themselves. I remember growing up playing hide and seek, racing bottles in rivers, playing in trees. You name it. Children in the future will rely solely on the 'net.
Sup?
The redesign happened, now my signature doesn't match anymore.

Writing manually...
cursive letters...
nice print letters...
grammar and spelling... (My young cousin doesn't understand the point of writing out whole sentence and not putting a "lol' at the end.)
reading actual whole books...
small used-book shops...
children movies that doesn't use CGI...

No, no NOOOOO!
"Communism is the very definition of failure." - Liberty Prime.
A summary of point number two and three would be "Certain great things from the past will go extinct." Number 1 and 4 would follow up on that with "This generation will be helpless."

I'm not the worlds best speller but there is definatly something wrong with not wanting to know how to communicate clearly.
reading actual whole books...
small used-book shops...
People need these. It's like what I said about the video stores but for smart people.
children movies that doesn't use CGI...
There are good movies that use cgi but yeah, it's a crutch.
Here's one i didn't think about before. The small town expereince. Being connected to the entire world (in this case via technology) is exactly what small towns shouldn't be. Small towns are about vauge issolation and knowing your little corner of the world and how it works. It's a sense of discovery that's quickly going away.

a.k.a none of today's screamo bullshit thrown in the mix with 50Cent's horrendous rap and other earbleed-causing atrocities. Equals to pre-1995 music.

Yes I did, but in order to conserve my dignity and not become a double-post bastard I let it go. BUT the 80's matter too - that's when most of the metal bands came into existence. But thanks for correcting me anyways.
Enjoy this home-baked imaginary internets-flavored cookie.

Guys! Hey guys! Check it out! I just got these walkie-talkie wrist watches! Now a friend and I can split up to about 200 feet and STILL communicate! It's amazing!

People can just choose not to have a cell phone. I've managed to get by without one, and personally I don't think I'd like people being able to call me at any time or place.
Getting up to turn the TV stations. Its getting hard to even use televisions without the remote these days.

Music isn't supposed to just make you happy, it's supposed to evoke a wide variety of emotions. Go listen to a operatic tragedy and tell me that it makes you feel happy. You can't. Why? Because that would be lying.
Personally, I find that the idea that music is just supposed to make you feel happy is a particularly shallow and vapid one.
I do agree, though, that a lot of today's music is absolute garbage.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

A lot of them aren't even built for that any more. Yes, there are buttons for channels but unless it's on three it's not lining up with the buttonless, modem looking things that pass for cable boxes now.
On the topic of tv's and tv watching I submit this, watching movies in intervals. Do you remember how with vhs when you stopped a tape you could just start it back at the exact same point? Yes, with dvd's you can use the scene selection to get acceptably close to where you were but with the tape you just dropped it back in and there it was. (I'm aware James Rolfe meantioned this is his "You know what's bullshit" series)
What I'm saying is that due to the technical pain in the ass scene selections can be I don't bother putting a movie in unless I'm certain I'll get to sit through it. I'll walk you through the process.
1. Skip past the previews.
2. Sit through the menu scene and select scene.
3.Sit through the scene select scene.
4. Scroll through the more clever than descriptive scene names and find the one you want.
5. Once the movie starts back it up or move it forward to get the one you actually wanted.
Not a lot of work I realize but it's a lot to go through for the sake of watching a movie.
Creativity. In every sense. Music these days is just hugely derivative, and that isn't even counting the masses of covers that plague the charts. Modern art is.... just bullshit. And don't get me fucking started on architecture. Every motherfucker that builds a house thinks it is hugely clever to juxtapose new and old. So they take a building, decorate the interior in a minimalist style, then put thatching on the roof. They then sit back and bask in the glorious light which they truly believe shines out of their own arseholes.
