But cigarettes will never be illegal, unless people stop buying them. If they did become illegal they'd have to make tobacco illegal too, because people would start rolling their own cigarettes and realizing that, despite the convenience of pre packaged and pre rolled cigarettes, it's much better for you without all the additives like nicotine.

I wouldn't care, because I don't smoke nor will I ever.

Taxes are to pay the health-problems that come from smoking. More cancer, higher taxes. Well, actually I'm not sure if this is the case in America, but in countries that have free health care.

Personally, I think banning smoking would be a brilliant idea. Because yeah sure, in the UK the Govement gain money from people who buy smokes, but people are DIEING from smoking, from kids all the way to grown ups. And for what? So that Gorden Brown can buy himself a duck house or whoever's bright idea that was?

Smokes should be band in my opinion, and not just in the Uk (Yes, I am from England)

Things would be extremely similar to when prohibition was still around. Crime rates would raise due to the illegal importing of cigarettes, gangs would compete with eachother in order to make the most money and Canada's economy would raise up very high because everyone would go there to buy their cigarettes.

In other words, cigarettes wouldn't stay illegal for long.

If cigarettes became illegal you would see me on the news for a shooting spree.

When prohibition happened, the amount of people drinking alcohol actually increased. The same thing would probably happen, making the amount of smokers either increase or stay the same.

The world economy would not be the same , and less people would have lung cancer ....... so you win some you lose some in this position

I'd either look into purchasing them overseas, or hoarding up on them before they become illegal. If stored properly, unopened packs of cigarettes can last several months.

Bad things would happen, nothing but bad things.

I think that if the government had the balls they would just outlaw cigarettes...

People would make them in secret, and then sell them illegally. The government isn't stupid enough to ba cigarettes, it just wouldn't work.

A smoking ban would have effects similar to prohibition. Crime would go up, the number of smokers would probably go up and it wouldn't last very long.
Personally I'd like to see all drugs legalised and given out to whoever wanted them in special places (like government run crack houses). It would severely reduce crime rates and other illegal activities and all the addicts would kill themselves with overdoses very quickly.

I really don't think cigarettes/cigars/any tobacco product will become illegal. Which is a shame, 'cause it would lower the number of deaths in America, especially the deaths caused by lung cancer. But no, the government won't do a thing, they don't care if thousands of americans die of lung cancer caused by smoking. They just care about the money. I'm gonna go to Washington and protest to those fat cats! See ya in a week!

This is what i also thought would most likely happen. It would be very similar to prohibition with what the Mafia did and places similar to speakeasies.

I think that the addicts would have a hard time adapting to it, but that new users would not develop. Smoking isn't even a good high, it's shitty and makes me want to throw up. Maybe it's just my body reacting funny to it but I don't see how people can become addicted to it.

What about our nicotine addictions? We have already been taken advantage of from the raise in cigarette and tobacco taxes. You can't just wish addiction away from making tobacco illegal. This would be a terrible idea, it would only piss of about 25% of our country. And not to mention the non-smokers who believe in personal freedom.

I would be mad and consult my governor by writing them a letter.

The US would lose shittons of money considering the money they get from taxing them.

It would be nice not having to breathe in that second hand smoke for once.
