Not necessarily. If the tree was a single tree in a field, then yes. If it was a tree in a forest, then no. Unless it was substantially higher than the rest of the trees. But anyway, the best thing to do when in a lightning storm, is to go away from solitary high things and lie flat on the ground. Or, should you be driving in a car, stay in the car. It'll act as a Faraday cage and won't be dangerous for those inside. However, be warned that when you want to go out, you'll have to find some way to earth it. Otherwise, it'll earth through you, and you'll be zapped anyway.
