mods are picked by wade if they are mature enough, how they are decent and mature towards others, Im pretty sure they don't make a random choice.

people are not modded because they suck dicks, as much as the popularity of that exists among other immature users. Its not some circle jerk fest or anything, just act normal and disciplined without making an ass of yourself.

I had a very low post count when I got modded (still do), so it's not that.
Most people had no clue who I was when I got modded (still don't), so it's not popularity.
I'd never met any other mod, staff, or admin (still haven't), so there were no sexual favors.
Guess that leaves ...quality of posts? hmm ...I honestly have no idea how or why I was modded.

The mystery continues.

A moderator has to play by the rules, not be a total asshole, and has to be helpful and resourceful.
That won't instantly make you a mod, but it's a good asset. Also, I think you also have to be popular to a certain degree. As for stats, I'm not sure.

And begging to be a mod DOES NOT HELP.

they gebnerally pic mods because they are model users .. they help out around the community.. have little or no ban record and are generally cool people tyhat help out around the site wether it be organizing contests, NG meets, helping users out in the where is how to forum.

plus being friendly with the mods helps.. i mean they arent going to pic someone if the mods dont really know them.. its a trust issue since mods have powers to ban people and potentially make people never want to come back to this site.. so yeah being cool being helpfull and being friendly with the mods helps.

me personally i would never want to be a moderator .. too much responsibilty.. this site is fun for me.. being a mod would change my experience here.. although sometime i see a thread made by a retard and i really wish i could lay a nice ban on em .. but oh well .. the mods do their jobs here pretty well
