Expect loads of typos and shitty fan-fiction.
As for typos, spelling and grammar would need to be important for any sort of literature submitting system on Newgrounds. It's possible to see how much effort has been made on a piece of writing just by looking at it. No one is going to want to read a story or poem that's barely paragraphed, full of spelling errors, etc. and that will be reflected in how people read it, if at all. Hell, this is what happens now. If you scroll down the entries thread of the recent writing competitions, you can see quickly who's put the effort in. Guess which ones tend to score higher with the judges. Again, I don't like stunting creativity, but I tend to look down at texts that have an over-abundance of misspelled words and grammatical errors too... but that's something that would need to be discussed. I think it's something that a large number of people could handle.
As for fan-fiction... well, I've already given my thoughts on that genre in thias thread briefly. It probably wouldn't be right to simply ban the concept (given how casual writers online just like to play about it), but I do think that the "best" fan-fiction is easy to pick up on, like the best written general fiction. I do admit though that it might make an interesting base for a competition, like it has been used before here. I'd like to hear other people's opinions on fan-fiction actually.

Lit Portal = TL;DR
If you don't like reading long pieces of text, then you shouldn't really be looking around a literature based area to begin with. No one would be forcing you to do so, and I actually don't see much in the way of stat-based perks, that might get some users believing they have to use it, coming out of the idea at this moment. I don't know if that's been discussed though; that seems a little far ahead of what's been laid down.
If some comedians start spamming up review sections or whatever, then a similar thing can be done to what's done now with reviews. In the case of a literature forum... well, posting TL:DR is already in Zerok's rule blog as a bannable offense. Of course, that might differ between mod, but if I caught anyone posting TL:DR in a literature forum... I'd be reconsidering some of my faith in humanity. Hyperbole? Hmm.

Imo on the first day, the lit portal would be filled with sex stories, text pics, bad fanfics, so and so is a jerk, rants, and stolen stories. But a lot of people said the art portal would turn NG into DeviantGrounds and so far it hasn't, hopefully if the lit portal comes out, it won't either.
Let's say that a literature portal was added tomorrow, and everyone on the BBS was made aware of it. We'll also assume in this situation that a considerable amount of "literature moderators" knew about the launch beforehand. The people in charge of enforcing the rules of the place would know that they would be facing at least a bit of spam, as I'm sure the art mods were a few days ago. At the opening of the mid-2007 redesign too, spam cam flooding into different areas of Newgrounds. I'm not going to argue that there might be problems with a literature area to begin with, but I also think that those made in charge would be dedicated enough to deal with it. It's happened before, and Newgrounds is far more stable on a day-to-day basis than some believe, in my opinion.

I swear, this is like my disclaimer in all of these literature section discussions now: I don't know how much discussion has been made, and I don't like assuming things. All I've really had are hints, vague hints at that, on what might be included or what might be important, but I don't know how finalised they are, if at all. I could talk at a decent length on the various considerations I might bring up personally, but what does that accomplish? That's why I like getting together here and bringing up my points as responses. I'm sure that if I did make a long list of ideas, people who are more in the know would be laughing at me. Somebody might even be smiling as they read this!
Too serious maybe? You decide!
