Well that could be potentially dangerous because if a big enough chunk gets taken out and falls to earth it won't burn up in the atomsphere meaning it will hit the earth and cause a shitstorm of epic proportions

If i'm right, ain't today October 9[sup]th[/sup] and I can see the moon all right? And,We wouldn't have any night time in case moon gets over.
The same quality of rumour, they said earth would blast with that Big Bang experiment.. but it was just a theroy to get hold of a "God Particle" from somewhere on the earth.

itsnot like it hasnt been done before. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is already orbiting the moon, and has taken multiple pictures such as this one of the Apollo 11 lunar lander, and then they are planning to send its second stage towards the moon, making a large explosion, and then it is going to be analysed by the LRO to see what it contains. Why does it matter what we do to the moon anyway, its not like anything lives there or it does anything. It just sits there orbiting earth.

For all you dumbasses still asking when it's gonna impact today it already happened early this morning.

Er, does anyone realise that the moon's gravity controls our tides. Blowing a chunk out of it could disrupt that and cause global disasters.

I disagree with the lack of hedgehog in this thread.

It's unlikely this puny impact will have any effects on us at home. Consider the countless other impacts which have marred our Moons surface, from immensely larger bodies, and if this impact does have even the slightest affect whose to say its for the worse? The point is, it's already in our past and only time will allow us to gain further knowledge of this event.

Without our violent past we probably wouldn't be here, oh wait I'm going off topic now.

All of you talking about blowing up the moon. BLA BLA BLA. Do you guys who think a small little would destroy the moon do anything against a rock THAT FUCKING BIG?!?!?! Even our strongest bomb wouldn't do a god damn thing to it, it'll treat said bomb as just another meteorite crashing into it. NOTHING MORE. Fuck, if it wanted to crumble to bits from something crashing into it, wouldn't have done it by now?? Yes, the missile has already hit the moon; it was around 4:00AM PST when it happened.
Oh look! The moon is still their! Wow IT NO BLOW UP! :'c
The stupidity of some people just... its pathetic.

That not entirely true, I'm certain our strongest would blow a fair sized chunk out of the lunar surface.

The rocket launched this morning apparently did absolutely nothing to the surface that we can see so far.

NASA sucks.

Surely there must be a more logical way to scan the inside of the moon than firing rockets at it?

Sorry to sound the tiniest bit racist, but isn't that just the American approach to things?

It wasn't actually a bombing, they never dropped a bomb. They just collided a ship into it. The moon gets hit by meteors much bigger than this all the time.

Does anyone know what they concluded from this experiment? Have they find what they were looking for?
